The Opera about Warsaw – The Best City in the World project has been launched, under which a new opera will be created for a large cast, commemorating the effort to rebuild Warsaw after World War II. The organizer of the project is Sinfonia Varsovia, which is working on it together with partner institutions: Grand Theater - National Opera, the International Festival of Contemporary Music ‘Warsaw Autumn’ and the Museum of Warsaw. The premiere of the finished work is planned for 2025.

The opera's libretto will be based on motifs from Grzegorz Piątek's book The Best City in the World. Warsaw in Reconstruction 1945–1949, awarded, among others, Literary Award of the Capital City of Warsaw and the Historical Award of the Capital City of Warsaw and nominated for the ‘Nike’ Literary Award.

The work will be performed on a large stage and by a symphony orchestra, soloists, choir, dancers, together with electronics and audiovisual projections. The work is to be communicative, and at the same time modern, using new means of expression and contemporary musical language, with an innovative approach to traditional operatic forms.

At the request of interested candidates, the National Institute of Music and Dance extends the recruitment of participants of the 3^rd International Competition of Polish Music. Pianists and chamber ensembles will be able to submit their applications until the end of February 2023. Participation in this event means not only gaining new experience but also serious prizes. In this edition of the Competition, the prize pool is EUR 100,000.

The International Competition of Polish Music popularizes Polish music of the 19^th and 20^th centuries in the world. The third edition of the event will take place from the 2^nd to the 9^th of July 2023 at the Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic in Rzeszów. Recordings from the event will be available on the largest streaming platforms.

The competition is organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance in cooperation with the Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic in Rzeszów, financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

During the concert of the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra conducted by the esteemed conductor and composer Francesc Bottiglier on the 11^th of February 11, 2023 at 6:00 p.m., various compositions from the 20^th and 21^st centuries will be performed. Among others works by Ottorin Respighi, Anton Webern and Marcel Chyrzyński. Polish premiere of two works by Francesco Bottiglier will also take place.

Chyrzyński was inspired to write Ukiyo-E by Japanese woodcuts of the same name - images of the passing world. The work that will open the concert is in fact a deconstruction of this woodcut tradition - it consists of ten links, the first of which is its final version. The next ones are the components of the first image, symbolizing the individual colors of ukiyo-e.

For the first time in Poland, compositions by Bottiglier will be performed: Music Continues and Bodensee Suite, which will close the concert.

As part of the series ‘Mieczysław Wajnberg - all string quartets - following dedications’ (17 quartets, 6 concerts, 1 performer) on the 11^th of February, 2023 at 18.00, NOSPR will host another concert of the Silesian Quartet, which this time will present the composer's 4^th, 6^th  and 9^th Quartets.

Contributing significantly to the rediscovery of Mieczysław Weinberg's music, the Silesian Quartet set itself an extremely demanding task: recording all 17 quartets of this forgotten, Polish-Jewish-Russian composer. This is only the second ensemble in the world that has managed to meet this challenge.

This season, we have the unique privilege of hearing a complete set of Mieczysław Weinberg's extraordinary quartets live, following the changes taking place in his musical language and following the trail of dedications hidden on the pages. In the upcoming concert we will be able to hear the String Quartet No. 9 Op. 20, String Quartet No. 9 Op. 80 and String Quartet No. 6, Op. 35.

The Silesian Triptych by Witold Lutosławski will be performed on the 10^th of February, 2023 at 19.00 by Monika Sendrowska (soprano) and the Symphony Orchestra of the Silesian Philharmonic conducted by Yaroslav Shemet.

The Silesian Triptych will take us into the world of beautiful Silesian love songs. We will also hear Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4.

The concert is realized under the patronage of Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne as part of the TUTTI.pl project promoting the performance of Polish music.
