Polish music in Nairobi

Nairobi 18.2.23On the 18th of February, 2023, an unusual concert of Polish classical music took place at the Amphitheater of the National Museum in Nairobi as part of the TPAAE project, which received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme. During their month-long stay at the Kenyatta University in Nairobi, the lecturers of the Academy of Art in Szczecin conduct masterclasses with students of the Department of Music and Dance, give lectures and concerts.

The artists of the hot afternoon were: Prof. Sylwia Burnicka-Kalischewska (soprano), Alicja Pilarczyk (violin) and Dominik Wizjan (piano).

The National Museum resounded mainly with Polish music, and more precisely with the songs of Fryderyk Chopin, Stanisław Moniuszko, Polish Caprice by Grażyna Bacewicz and Legend Op. 17 by Henryk Wieniawski. There were also European accents, such as Lullyby for Lalit by George Benjamin, or songs by Richard Wagner (Schmerzen) and Richard Strauss (Zueignung).
