At the age of 55, the opera singer Marcin Bronikowski, a great chamber musician and winner of many vocal competitions, died during a trip to Albania.
He made his stage debut at the age of 24 at the Sofia National Opera as Figaro in Gioachino Rossini's The Barber of Seville. Two years later, in 1994, he performed for the first time at the Grand Theater in Warsaw, as Albert in Jules Massenet's Werther.
He sang on the most famous opera stages in the world, including: at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Gran Teatro "La Fenice" in Venice, at the National Opera in Shanghai, in Hong Kong; at festivals in Bregenz, Macau, San Sebastian, Martina Franca, Schlezwig-Holstein, Varna and others.
He was the only Polish opera singer whom José Carreras invited to participate in his charity concert on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of UNICEF. This concert took place at the Stanisławowski Theater in Warsaw on Christmas Day in 1996.
During his career, he sang over 40 opera roles.
He recorded for Bulgarian Radio, the 2nd Program of the Polish Radio, Bavarian Radio in Munich, Spanish Radio, Finnish National Radio, and also took part in many domestic and foreign television programmes (including Belgium, China, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Israel, Korea, Norway and South Africa).
He received the Honorary Silver Ace in 1996 for artistic achievements, the Honorary Pearl in the CULTURE category awarded by the "Polish Market" monthly for "promoting Polish music on the largest opera stages in the world" (2010) and the Annual Award of the Capital City of Warsaw (2013).
