Coryphaeus of Polish Music 2015 – names of the nominees have been announced

Nominees for the Coryphaeus of Polish Music 2015 award
have been elected at the Institute of Music and Dance
Programming Board for Music meeting on 14th September 2015
in the following categories:

Personality of the Year,

Event of the Year and

Honorary Award.

Out of the total of 115 candidates, the Programme Board has selected five nominees in each category:

Personality of the Year
• Paweł Gusnar
• Nikola Kołodziejczyk
• Paweł Mykietyn
• Marcin Stańczyk
• Anna Szostak-Myrczek

Event of the Year
• Folk Requiem concert and album performed by Adam Strug and Ensemble Kwadrofonik, produced by Polish Radio Programme 2
• Opening of the new seat of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, together with the Opening Festival
• Production of G. F. Handel’s Agrippina at the Stanisławowski Theatre in the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw, prepared by the “Dramma per musica” Society of Baroque Art Lovers
• Spectacles presented by the Grand Theatre – National Opera: Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta and Bela Bartók’s Bluebeard's Castle directed by Mariusz Treliński – at the Metropolitan Opera in New York
• Viktoria Nowak as winner of Eurovision Young Dancers 2015 at the New Theatre in Plzeň, Czech Republic

Honorary Award
Owing to the special character of the Honorary Award, the name of its recipient will only be announced at the award ceremony.

These nominations will now be considered by the Electoral College, consisting of vice-chancellors of music academies and universities, directors of institutes of musicology, presidents of artists’ unions, journalists and the recipients of the Award from previous years.

The award gala will be held on 11th November 2015 at 7.30 pm at the Polish Radio Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio in Warsaw.

The recipients of the Coryphaeus of Polish Music awards are authors, performers, musicologists, critics, journalists, human scientists, researchers, event animators, culture promoters and managers, artistic groups, as well as institutions, artistic events and various projects related to promotion of music culture, education and community outreach. The awards are granted in three categories: Personality of the Year, Event of the Year and Honorary Award. In 2014, Włodek Pawlik was elected Personality of the Year, and Krystian Zimerman’s concert during the 56th “Warsaw Autumn” International Festival of Contemporary Music was named Event of the Year. Prof. Mieczysław Tomaszewski received the Honorary Award for his entire output. The winners received commemorative statuettes designed by Prof. Adam Myjak, while the financial rewards were funded by ZAiKS Authors’ Association (Polish Society of Authors and Composers) and by STOART Union of Performing Artists.

Names of candidates can be submitted by all those involved in Polish music life. Last year, more than 160 entries were registered. The Coryphaeus of Polish Music awards are granted by an Electoral College, consisting of vice-chancellors of music academies and universities, directors of institutes of musicology, journalists from music-related media, representatives of unions and organisations active in the Polish music world, as well as all the recipients of the Award from previous years, regardless of the category.
