Zbigniew Bagiński, composer and teacher; b. 19th January 1949 in Szczecin. He studied composition with Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz in the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw (1967-71). Since 1989, he has taught composition in Warsaw’s Music Academy. Simultaneously he works in the State Higher School of Theatre Studies in Warsaw, and in 1973-74 he worked in the Catholic University of Lublin, Institute of Musicology.
Zbigniew Bagiński’s works have been performed in many countries throughout the world and received awards in composer competitions, including: an honourable mention in the Young Composers’ Competition of the Polish Composers’ UnionJourneys to the Other Side for flute, piano and tam-tam, 3rd prize in the International Competition for Composers in Kiev in 1992 for Threnody for symphony orchestra and mixed choir (1992), 1st prize in the Polish Composers’ Union’s 50th Anniversary Competition in 1995 for Small Elegiac Symphony (1995). In 1989-1999, he was secretary general of the Polish Composers’ Union.
