Ewa Fabiańska-Jelińska,
composer, musicologist, and improviser; b. 13th November 1989 in Toruń. She attended the Karol Szymanowski School of Music in her hometown, studying composition with Magdalena Cynk. In 2011 she obtained a BA in musicology at the Adam Mickiewicz University on Poznań. Two years later she obtained an MA (with honours) in composition from the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań under Professor Zbigniew Kozub. In 2014 she completed postgraduate composition studies at Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna under Professor Reinhard Karger. Currently she is a lecturer at the Academy of Music in Poznań.
She has been awarded scholarships by Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province, Mayor of Toruń and the City of Toruń. She received the “Young Poland” scholarship granted by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland (2012) and a scholarship in recognition of her academic achievements from the Minister of Science and Higher Education (2012/2013). As part of Composing Commissions, the programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, her work Offenbarungen und Eingebungen was released by PWM Edition and performed by the Amadeus Polish Radio Orchestra under Agnieszka Duczmal (2013). Fabiańska-Jelińska has also collaborated with the Orchestra of the Poznań Philharmonic.
Her compositions have been performed at a range of national and international festivals and concerts, including International Festival of Contemporary Music "Warsaw Autumn", Music and Art Festival of the Baltic Countries "Probaltica", International Festival of Contemporary Music "Poznań Music Spring", Festival of Polish Music in Krakow and International Festival "Music in Old Krakow". Many of her works have been performed at concerts held across Europe, e.g. Czech Republic, Austria, Ireland, Estonia, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Slovenia, USA, and South Korea.
Ewa Fabiańska-Jelińska is an award-winning composer. She won the 3rd prize at the Marian Gordiejuk Composition Competition for students of secondary schools of music (held by the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, 2007), 1st and 2nd prize at a composition competition for the best percussion piece held by Oklahoma City University, and 1st prize at the 9th Tadeusz Ochlewski Composition Competition for Miniatures sonoristiques for prepared trombone solo (2011) organized by PWM Edition. She was also a finalist of a composition competition held as part of the 21st Fr. Stanisław Ormiński International Festival of Religious Music in Gdynia (2009), International Composition Competition “Gramodeska” in Prague (2011). She received an honourable mention at the 5th Polish National Competition of Music for Children and Young People “Silver Pane” (“Srebrna Szybka”) in 2012 and at the 4th and 5th Zygmunt Mycielski Polish National Composition Competition in 2013 and 2014.
The scores of Ewa Fabiańska-Jelińska’s works have been publised by PWM Edition, Acte Préalable and Norsk Musikforlag (Norway). Her music has been performed by many orchestras, including the Orchestra of the Poznań Philharmonic, "Amadeus" Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra, Świętokrzyska Philharmonic Orchestra, Cappella Gedanensis, Batlic Neopolis Orchestra; contemporary music ensembles such as Sepia Ensemble, NeoQuartet oraz Prague Modern, as well as outstanding soloists - Stefan Kamasa, Andrzej Tatarski, Ewa Guzowska, Katarzyna Budnik-Gałązka, and many others. In the 2014/15 artistic season she was the composer-in-residence of the string orchestra Baltic Neopolis Orchestra (programme organized by the Institute of Music and Dance).
She is a member of the Youth Circle of the Polish Composers' Union and a coordinator of the International Festival of Contemporary Music “Poznań Spring”.
