Wojtek Blecharz's "Rechnitz. Opera" – for the first time online!

RechlitzA special presentation of Wojtek Blecharz' Rechnitz. Opera directed by Katarzyna Kalwat and based on a drama by Elfriede Jelinek, a Nobel prize winning Austrian writer, will take place on 9 May 2020 at 8:00 p.m. on TR Warszawa Facebook and Vimeo pages. A meeting with the creators will take place after the performance, around 10:30 p.m.

The presentation of the Rechnitz. Opera – The Exterminating Angel, which premiere took place on 25 September 2018 at the 61st "Warsaw Autumn" International Festival of Contemporary Music, is a part of the action "Stay at home, do not leave the theater!".

The scenario of the opera presents the tragic events which took place in March 1945 in the castle of Baroness Margrit Batthyány in Austria, Rechnitz. According to the testimonies of witnesses, during the reception, issued by the Baroness Margit von Batthyány, her guests - local SS and Gestapo officers - took part in the massacre of two hundred Jewish forced laborers brought there from Hungary. The mass grave of the slaughtered labourers has never been found and the sluggish progress in the investigation made it possible for the executioners to escape. In Jelinek's play, the events at the castle in Rechnitz are described by Messengers whose relations contradict each other. The play, will not be a reconstruction of the events from 70 years ago from Rechnitz. RECHNITZ. OPERA - The Exterminating Angel is an attempt at understanding the mechanisms of collective memory. Its main theme is the language as an instrument of manipulation, lies and violence. It’s also an account of the contemporary European history, European identity, a part of which is the experience of war and Holocaust.

Smykowizje online #5 „Abstraction squared”

muzykajest.plThe Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art and the Music is For Everyone Foundation invite you to a series of interactive multisensory activities for families with children aged 3-6 years "Smykowizje Online". The next workshop (in Polish) entitled "Abstraction squared" will be held at Smykowizje Online Facebook page on 9 May 2020 at 11.00 a.m.

What is abstraction? Can all images and shapes be named? Can a triangle be a ship, and a circle be a crocodile eye? During the next "Smykowizji online" meeting we will visit the Bik Van der Pol duo exhibition "Way too many stories to fit in such a small box" at the Ujazdowski Castle. We will listen to strange stories told by the exhibition and the amazing Square. And finally, together we will create an abstract work of art.

Parents with children can listen to the stories accompanied by music composed by Agnieszka Widlarz and use the materials and tools introduced by the organizers to draw their children's attention to the basic shapes close to their perception: a line, square, rectangle or circle. The EDU U-Jazdowski team together with the Music is for Everyone Foundation prepared many sensory surprises and creative tales, which can be told together.

"From Wieniawski to Krzesany” – another internet concert of the Poznań Philharmonic

FPHenryk Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 22 performed by Bomsori Kim and Wojciech Kilar's Krzesany will be featued in the programme of the next internet concert of the Poznań Philhamonic on Friday, 8 May 2020, at 7 p.m.

Both works were performed by the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Marek Pijarowski. The concert was held in the Konzerthaus Berlin on the 23rd of October 2018 and it was broadcast by national German radio program Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

Out of two violin concertos by Wieniawski (probably his best works) Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 22 is performed more frequently and regarded as more mature and more original. Krzesany by Wojciech Kilar, written in 1974, was a real breakthrough in his work, as his prior compositions were more avant-garde, mostly sonoristic. The word “krzesany” means a group of dance steps characteristic for highlander dances that includes striking one’s heels while jumping. Kilar was greatly inspired by the whole range of elements deriving from highlander folk music, thus after Krzesany he composed other pieces influenced by this region: Kościelec 1909, Grey Mist, and Orawa.

The concert will be broadcast atwww.filharmoniapoznanska.pl
