Warsaw | Ludomir Michał Rogowski in memoriam

A concert on the 65th anniversary of Ludomir Michał Rogowski's death will take place on 24 July 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the University of Warsaw Library (S.B. Linde's Hall) as part on the 12th edition of the July concerts.

The concert will feature oprano Dorota Całek – associate professor at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Arts in Kalisz, pianist Urszula Świerczyńska, who has premiered numerous Polish works, violinist and violist Justyna Górska, a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. We will listen to their renditions of Ludomir Rogowski's songs and instrumental works: Ballade in C minor, Idyll, The Sounds of Hometown, Sonata in G minor, Six Preludes, Propos serieux et plaisants, and Serenade for voice, violin and piano to words by Natalie Clifford-Barney.

The concert will be accompanied by a presentation of valuable manuscripts, letters and photos from the Ludomir Michał Rogowski collections stored in the Polish Composers' Archive at the Music Department of the University of Warsaw Library and a lecture dedicated to the composer's fascinating life and career delivered by his biographer, Urszula Dzierżawska-Bukowska.

Jastrzębia Góra | 14th International Summer Music Festival "Word and Music of Jesuits"

Polish Chamber Choir will perform on 24 July 2019 at 8:00 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Jastrzębia Góra as part of the 14th International Summer Music Festival "Word and Music of Jesuits".

In addition to the Polish Chamber Choir under the direction of Jan Łukaszewski, the concert will feature organist Olgierd Wysocki. The programme will include works by Anton Bruckner, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Thomas Jennefelt as well as Stanisław Moniuszko's Offertorium in D major, and Krzysztof Penderecki's Missa brevis.

Frombork | 52nd International Organ Music Festival

52nd International Festival of Organ Music will take place in Frombork between 14 July and 4 August 2019.

The International Organ Music Festival in Frombork takes place at the Archcathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Andrew, equipped with the organ from 1683-1684, funded by Bishop Michał Radziejowski and built by Daniel Nitrowski from Gdańsk. It is one of the best organs in Poland, located in a cathedral presenting Gothic and Baroque sacred art. The festival inaugurated in 1967 is one of the oldest in Europe and it's goal is to popularize organ music. The organizers are the archcathedral parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Nicolaus Copernicus Museum, Museum of the History Monument "Frombork Cathedral Complex" and the city and commune of Frombork.

This year's festival will be attended by outstanding European musicians: organists Fabio Ciofini, Józef Serafin, Konstantin Volostnov, Mateusz Kotwica, cellist Alessandra Montani, countertenor Sławomir Bronk and Gdańsk Quartet. In their performance, we will listen to masterpieces of European organ and chamber music. The programme of the event also includes works by Polish contemporary composers. The final concert will feature, among others, Michał Sławecki's Alma Redemptoris Mater and Marian Sawa's Last Prayer.

Korzkiew | Summer Festival of Classical Music 2019

The annual Summer Festival of Classical Music in Korzkiew will be held until 1 September 2019.

The concerts take place every Sunday at 5:15 p.m. in a beautiful baroque Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in Korzkiew. The first edition of the festival organized by the Korzkiew Music Association took place in 2012. The festival presents the finest works of world-class artists, including Polish composers. This year's programme features works by Fryderyk Chopin, Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Mieczysław Karłowicz.

Among the performers, there are Bester Quartet, violinists Michał Nowak, Daniel Stabrawa, Wiesław Kwaśny, singers Jacek Tosik-Warszawiak, Edyta Piasecka, Magda Niedbała, clarinetist Tomasz Sowa, cellist Piotr Bylica, pianists Jerzy Stryjniak, Piotr Machnik, Mariola Cieniawa, Sławomir Cierpik, Mirosław Herbowski and Judyta Herbowska, as well as young laureates of music competitions. The festival is accompanied by the exhibition "Polish Madonnas and Cracow in a cut-out" by Anna Małecka-Beiersdorf.

Admission to all concerts is free.

Nagrania Capelli Cracoviensis

Capella Cracoviensis przekazała do fonoteki Polskiego Centrum Informacji Muzycznej POLMIC swoje unikatowe publikacje CD.

Płyta Adam Jarzębski i muzyka polskiego dworu Wazów zrealizowana została przez Capellę Cracoviensis pod kierunkiem Agnieszki Świątkowskiej w dniach 27–31 października 2018 r. Nagrania dofinansowano ze środków Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego pochodzących z Funduszu Promocji Kultury w ramach programu „Muzyczny ślad” koordynowanego przez Instytut Muzyki i Tańca.

Płytowy pięciopak Audite et Admiramini z muzyką Grzegorza Gerwazego Gorczyckiego, Marcina Mielczewskiego i Bartłomieja Pękiela został wydany z okazji prezentacji dawnej muzyki polskiej w roku 2012 na targach muzycznych MIDEM w Cannes we Francji.

Nagrania prezentują muzykę baroku małopolskich rezydencji biskupich i utwory, które brzmiały na dworach królów z dynastii Wazów. W booklecie dołączonym do albumu Audite et Admiramini znakomita znawczyni polskiej muzyki dawnej Aleksandra Patalas napisała: „Pierwsza połowa XVII wieku to okres szczególnego rozkwitu kultury muzycznej w Rzeczypospolitej. Pierwszoplanową rolę na polu muzycznym odegrał w tamtym czasie mecenat króla Zygmunta III Wazy, panującego w latach 1587–1632. Utrzymywał on na swym dworze kapelę, cieszącą się opinią jednego z najlepszych zespołów muzycznych ówczesnej Europy. Jej poziom podniósł się jeszcze za panowania kolejnego władcy, Władysława IV Wazy (1632–1648), który odziedziczył po ojcu zamiłowanie do sztuki dźwięków. Król zatrudniał zdolnych wokalistów i instrumentalistów, w tym – wielu artystów z Włoch, a jego kapela stała się ważnym centrum twórczości muzycznej, z którego wyrosło grono wybitnych kompozytorów polskich piszących muzykę kościelną, komnatową i teatralną”.

Wrocław | Faces of the Cello

Concert of the 6th International Cello Academy celebrating the 70th birth anniversary and 50th anniversary of work of Piotr Moss will take place in the National Forum of Music in Wrocław on 21 July 2019 at 6:00 p.m.

International Cello Academy (ICA) is one of the few events in Europe directed at cellists from around the world. As part of ICA, seven concerts are organized with a very wide repertoire – from Baroque to jazz and contemporary music. During the workshops, the Cello Academy Orchestra comprising a few dozen musicians is formed, involving all participants, lecturers and guests of the ICA. This year, this unique ensemble of cellists will perform at a special concert at the National Forum of Music in Wrocław.

The Cello Academy Orchestra and the Octet of lecturers of the International Cello Academy will perform under the baton of Piotr Moss, who celebrates this year 70th birthday and the 50th anniversary of artistic work. The musicians will present works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Giovanni Sollimy, and above all Piotr Moss himself, including the wold premiere of Suite Elegiaque for cello octet, commissioned by the International Cello Academy.

The founder and organiser of the International Cello Academy is the Polish Cello Quartet bringing together prominent Polish cellists: Tomasz Daroch, Krzysztof Karpeta, Adam Krzeszowiec and Wojciech Fudala.

Summer Concerts of the Polish National Youth Choir 2019

Summer concerts of the Polish National Youth Choir will take place in Częstochowa, Wieliczka and Kraków on 19-21 July 2019.

Polish National Youth Choir is an artistic and educational project directed at youth between 18 and 26 years old: pupils and students of vocal departments of music schools and academies, and the best singers of Polish choirs. It is financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and run by the National Forum of Music. Each PNYCh edition includes two sessions devoted to a specific topic. Quartets, sections and tutti rehearsals as well as individual singing lessons, lectures and workshops conducted by specialists in their fields are held as part of individual sessions. All these activities are finalised with concerts during which young people can present the results of their work. A characteristic feature of the project is to invite guest conductors and singing teachers from Poland and abroad to collaborate on subsequent editions.

During this year's concerts at the end of the summer session 2019, the Polish National Youth Choir will perform under the direction of Agnieszka Franków-Żelazny and Bob Chilcott. They will present works of Bob Chilcott himself, Uģis Prauliņš, Benjamin Britten, William Albright, as well as Totus Tuus Op. 60 by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki.

The project is carried out as part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of regaining independence and rebulding of the Polish statehood "Niepodległa".

Wrocław | China-Europe International Culture and Arts Festival

On 16-21 July 2019 the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław will host a group of 150 young musicians from China who will take part in the Sino-European Festival of Culture and Arts.

The festival is the first event co-organized by the Wrocław Academy of Music with a partner from Beijing. The idea of the Festival is international integration, exchange of artistic experiences and establishing contacts between European and Chinese art academies. In 2017 and 2018, the festival took place at universities in Italy and Spain, which initiated fruitful cooperation between European and Asian creative environments. This year a group of young Chinese artists will take part in music courses, instrumental and vocal competitions and will present recitals and concerts at the AMKL Concert Hall in Wrocław. Classes and competitions will be conducted by the pedagogues of the Wrocław Academy and invited artists from China.

An important aspect of the project is the presentation of Polish music, including works by composers associated with the Wrocław Academy of Music. The festival will include two large artistic events in the AMKL Concert Hall, which will be open to the public: a ceremonial opening of the Festival on 16 July at 4.30 p.m., and a final concert on 21 July 7.00 p.m. During the last festival concert, the Symphony Orchestra of students and graduates of the Academy of Music in Wrocław will perform Largo by Stanisław Krupowicz and Fjörd-dur by Michał Moc.

Bogusław Schaeffer's Funeral in Salzburg

A funeral of Bogusław Schaeffer – composer, musicologist, playwright, graphic designer and teacher, honorary member of the Polish Composers' Union –took place on 16 July 2019 at the Komunalfriedhof in Salzburg.

During the ceremony, the President of the Board of the Polish Radio RDC, Tadeusz Deszkiewicz, handed to the family of the great artist the Order of Polonia Restituta First Class, the Grand Cross, awarded posthumously to Bogusław Schaeffer by the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda. Among Polish civilian awards, the Order is second only to the rarely awarded Order of the White Eagle.

The funeral ceremony was attended by the artistist's family, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Austria, Mrs Jolanta Róża Kozłowska, the Vice-Consul of the Republic of Poland in Munich, Mr Michał Madaj, representatives of the Salzburg Mozarteum and artists, including an outstanding singer living in Salzburg, Aleksandra Zamojska, and a student of the composer, prof. dr hab. Marek Chołoniewski, head of the Electroacoustic Music Studio at the Academy of Music in Krakow.
