9th Schaeffer’s Era Festival

e9th edition of "Schaeffer’s Era" Festival will be held on October 26, 2017 at Studio Tęcza in Warsaw (8 Rydygiera Street). The event will celebrate the 70th anniversary of Schaeffer's artistic work.

"Schaeffer's Era" is an annual international project initiated by the Aurea Porta Foundation based in Warsaw. It's coorganized by the Mazovia Institute of Culture, Studio Tęcza, Stołeczna Estrada, ZAiKS and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The event is centered around audiovisual arts and is an attempt to create an interactive theatre space that connects sound, image and movement.

This year's edition celebrates three anniversaries connected with Schaeffer's work as a playwright, composer and graphic artist: 70th anniversary of his artistic work, 30th anniversary of his academic work at Mozarteum in Salzburg, and 50th PhD anniversary at the University of Warsaw as well as 50th anniversary of premiere of Electronic Music.

The main performance directed by Maciej Sobociński will be held at Studio Tęcza at 7.30 p.m. The list of invited artists inludes musicians: Padma Shankar, Ghatam Giridhar Udupa, Nathan Davis, Irinel Anghel, Michał Urbaniak and his band, Lost Education (Patryk Zakrocki, Hanna Piosik, Paweł Szamburski) and Gre Badanien Choir, actors (Marek Frąckowiak, Waldemar Obłoza, Sean Palmer, Lidia Bogaczówna) and dancers (Witek Jurewicz, Lena Kowalska).

9th Soundedit Festival

sThe 9th edition of "Soundedit" festival will be held in Łódź from October 26 to 29, 2017. The Bodo Cinema will join the event for the third time by presenting music movies.

International Festival of Music Producers and Sound Designers "Soundedit" is a unique event that has taken place in Łódź for nine years. It’s the only event entirely dedicated to one of the most creative professional groups – music producers. They may be standing in the shadow of the big stars but they are the ones responsible for the final shape of the recordings we listen to every day.

Soundedit is a place where professionals meet the amateurs. Polish artists have the opportunity to meet the world’s greatest music industry representatives. By exchanging experiences, they are able to raise the quality of their work. The most important music producers are awarded the statuette of “The Man with the Golden Ear”. This year it will go to Tony Visconti, Michael Nyman and Marek Biliński. Michel Nyman's concert will take place at the Lodz Philharmonic on October 29 at 7 p.m.

Screenings at the Bodo Cinema will start on October 20. A highlight of the programme is a unique set of movies produced by the Educational Film Studio in Łódź in cooperation with the Polish Radio Experimental Studio in Warsaw. Among the titles are: „Środek drogi”, „Abakany”, „Taki układ”, „Władysław Strzemiński”, „Pięciobój nowoczesny”, and „Taki jest świat Gabrielo” with music composed by such artists as Krzysztof Penderecki, Eugeniusz Rudnik, Bohdan Mazurek, Bogusław Schaffer, and Józef Skrzek.

25th International Chamber Music Festival "Silesian String Quartet and Its Guests"

kThe Jubilee 25th edition of the International Chamber Music Festival "Silesian Quartet and Its Guests" will be held between November 15-26, 2017 at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. 

The Silesian String Quartet has been organising the Festival since 1993. It has a unique format – the audience is treated to chamber pieces for string quartet and other instruments, and hence also to guest soloists, who perform together with the musicians of the Silesian String Quartet. This year's edition main theme is "Replica and Polish piano quintets".

The Silesian String Quartet musicians (Szymon Krzeszowiec, Arkadiusz Kubica, Łukasz Syrnicki i Piotr Janosik) will perform along with eight pianists, including an outstanding promoter of Polish music in Great Britain, Jonathan Plowright. The programme of four concerts will festure works by such composers as Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Antonín Dvořak, Grażyna Bacewicz, Ignacy Friedman, Juliusz Zarębski, Ludomir Różycki, Szymon Laks, Tadeusz Majerski.

"Sic itur ad Deum" – music drama about Saint Adalbert

Stage performance of Beata Wróblewska's music drama "Sic itur ad Deum", to the libretto by Dariusz S. Wójcik, directed by Marek Richter, will be held on November 4, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the St.John's Centre in Gdańsk on the 20th anniversary of its premiere. 

The premiere of this work, which is also called an opera, took place at the Wybrzeże Theater in Gdańsk on April 23, 1997 as part of the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the castle-city overt the Motława River. The author of the libretto is a Gdańsk artist Dariusz Wójcik –  actor, singer and cultural animator who got fascinated with the figure of Saint Adalbert, the Bishop of Prague and a missionary to the Hungarians, Poles, and Prussians, who was martyred in his efforts to convert the Baltic Prussians to Christianity. The music drama is embedded in the historical realities of the tenth century. It depicts figures living in these times in Europe who had significant influence on the shaping of social, political and religious relations. The figure of Saint Adalbert – the main character, a man ahead of his own era – creates a dramatic axis of the work. 

The cast consists of a group of ten solists (singers, actors, dancers), extras (including students of the D. Baduszkowa Vocal-Acting School in Gdynia), and a 20-person chamber orchestra, which will perform under the baton of Piotr Staniszewski .

Warsztaty improwizacji dla dzieci „Opowiedz mi bajkę” w Wilanowie

omb28 października 2017 roku zapraszamy na kontynuację warsztatów improwizacji dla dzieci „Opowiedz mi bajkę”, które organizuje Polskie Towarzystwo Muzyki Współczesnej we współpracy z Centrum Kultury Wilanów.

Połączenie muzyki, książek, improwizacji i zabawy to idea zajęć, przeznaczonych dla dwóch grup dzieci w wieku 3-5 lat oraz 6-8 lat. Uczestnicy słuchają muzyki nowej, poznają podstawy improwizacji oraz układają własne bajki na podstawie ilustracji z książek graficznych. Opowiadania te są następnie „przekładane” na język muzyczny przez zaproszonych gości. Wspólnie bawiąc się, dzieci odkrywają świat muzyki współczesnej, różne instrumenty i ich niezwykłe brzmienia, a także wspaniałe książki.

28 października gośćmi warsztatów będą Aleksandra Żakiewicz (sopran) i Jarosław Siwiński (instrumenty klawiszowe), a zajęcia poprowadzi kontrabasistka Małgorzata Kołcz.

Podczas zajęć dzieciom aktywnie towarzyszą ich opiekunowie. Zajęcia trwają ok. 90 minut z krótką przerwą i są bezpłatne. Nowowiejski NA NOWO

n„Nowowiejski Na Nowo” Festival will take place in Radom between October 25-27, 2017 and will include concerts, lectures and workshops. 

„Nowowiejski Na Nowo” Festival covers three days of meetings at the Oscar Kolberg's Music School and Saint Lucas Church in Radom. The festival's main goal is to introduce audience to Feliks Nowowiejski works, as a great example of music from the turn of the 20th and 21st century. It is mainly targeted to local students and teachers, as well as all eager listeners.

The event is co-funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage under the project “Nowowiejski 2017”, realized by the Institute of Music and Dance.

Prezentacja polskiej muzyki na Targach Music China w Szanghaju

p14 października 2017 roku zakończyły się w Szanghaju największe targi muzyczne w Azji – Music China. Polska muzyka prezentowana były na nich dzięki obecności Polskiego Wydawnictwa Muzycznego i Narodowego Instytutu Fryderyka Chopina.

W dniach 11-14 października na wspólnym stoisku Polskiego Wydawnictwa Muzycznego i Narodowego Instytutu Fryderyka Chopina, zorganizowanym w ramach polskiego pawilonu, eksponowana była oferta wydawnicza obydwu instytucji. Spośród szerokiego katalogu publikacji PWM największą popularnością cieszyły się utwory edukacyjne (w szczególności z serii pedagogicznej PWM dla początkujących z przepięknymi okładkami autorstwa Joanny Rusinek), źródłowe wydania dzieł Henryka Wieniawskiego, Karola Szymanowskiego i Mieczysława Karłowicza oraz muzyka współczesna – kompozycje Witolda Lutosławskiego, Henryka Mikołaja Góreckiego, Grażyny Bacewicz, Wojciecha Kilara i Romana Maciejewskiego, a także twórców młodszego pokolenia.

Niezwykle wysoko cenione wśród odbiorców z Azji są niezmiennie dzieła i postać Fryderyka Chopina. Mimo, że wydania dzieł wszystkich Chopina: Wydanie Narodowe pod redakcją prof. Jana Ekiera, jak też edycja sygnowana przez Ignacego Jana Paderewskiego są od lat obecne na rynku azjatyckim w chińskiej i japońskiej wersji językowej, oryginalna polska edycja prezentowana na stoisku PWM i NIFC cieszyła się ogromnym zainteresowaniem. Odwiedzający mieli także okazję zapoznać się z faksymiliami dzieł Fryderyka Chopina oraz szerokim wyborem publikacji książkowych i płytowych z muzyką Chopina z katalogu NIFC.

W targach Music China udział biorą najważniejsi wydawcy i przedstawiciele branży muzycznej z całego świata. Obecność w tym gronie Polskiego Wydawnictwa Muzycznego oraz Narodowego Instytutu Fryderyka Chopina z pewnością przyczyni się do zwiększenia pozycji polskiej muzyki na świecie i umożliwi szerszą promocję polskiego dziedzictwa muzycznego za granicą.

The Avant-garde Whispered in One’s Ear at FINA: Rudnik/Kaliski/Szymborski/Atman

The next concert of The Avant-garde Whispered in One’s Ear cycle will be held on October 24, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. at the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute (3/5 Wałbrzyska Street, Warsaw). It will be dedicated to Eugeniusz Rudnik on the first anniversary of the artist's death.

The concert will be performed by Krzysztof Kaliski and Łukasz Maciej Szymborski – two theater musicians fascinated with Rudnik's electroacoustic art, who will pay tribute to the artist. They will reach for reel-to-reel tape recorders and modern sampling techniques, whereas Mateusz Atman will take care of the visual ascpects of the concert.

After the concert there will be a screening of Zuzanna Solakiewicz's biographical music documentary 15 Corners of the World (2014).

Oriental balletoman's feast

b The great classic ballet show Le Corsaire will open the 2017 season of the cinema broadcasts from the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. It will be transmitted live at the Praha Cinema in Warsaw at 5 p.m. on October 22.

Le Corsaire is a ballet typically presented in three acts, with a libretto originally created by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges loosely based on the poem The Corsair by Lord Byron. Originally choreographed by Joseph Mazilier to the music of Adolphe Adam, it was first presented by the ballet of the Théâtre Impérial de l´Opéra in Paris on 23 January 1856.

All modern productions of Le Corsaire are derived from the revivals staged by the Ballet Master Marius Petipa for the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg throughout the mid to late 19th century. The ballet has many celebrated passages which are often extracted from the full-length work and performed independently: the scene Le jardin animé, the Pas d'esclave, the Pas de trois des odalisques, and the so-called Le Corsaire pas de deux, which is among classical ballet's most famous and performed excerpts.
