New Year’s Eve at the Świętokrzyska Philharmonic

Soprano Ewa Tracz, mezzosoprano Magdalena Pluta, baritone Łukasz Skrobek and the Świętokrzyska Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under Jacek Rogala will give a special concert on December 31, 2016 at 6.00 pm in Kielce.

The artists will perform fragments of famous operas, operettas and musicals, such as The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti, Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Carmen by Georges Bizet, Faust by Charles Gounod, Flis by Stanisław Moniuszko, My Fair Lady by Frederick Loewe, The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár, and other works.

National Forum of Music / New Year’s Eve Concert

NFM Symphony Orchestra and pianist Jan Lisiecki under Daniel Raiskin will perform a New Year’s Eve concert on December 31, 2016 in Wrocław.

The programme includes Concert Overture in E major Op. 12 by Karol Szymanowski, Piano Concerto in A minor Op. 16 by Edvard Grieg and Symphony No. 9 in E minor Op. 95 "From the New World" by Antonín Dvořák. The solo part will be interpreted by Jan Lisiecki - Canada-born pianist of Polish descent who signed an exclusive recording agreement with Deutsche Grammophon in 2010, while the artists will be conducted by Daniel Raiskin - former chief conductor of the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Łódź (2008-2015).

"The Man from Manufaktura" / opera excerpts - premiere

The excerpts of the opera The Man from Manufaktura will be presented for the first time on January 5, 2017 at the Grand Theatre in Łódź.

The concert is one of the stages of the Opera Composition Competition (subject: 2-hour opera The Man from Manufactura to the libtretto by Małgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk), which gathered 40 applications from composers all over the world. By December 20, the jury will select 3 finalists who will be invited to prepare the public performance of the opera’s fragments scheduled for January. The fragments will be performed by soloists (special guest of the evening will be mezzosoprano Małgorzata Walewska), mixed choir and orchestra of the Grand Theatre in Łódź under Wojciech Rodek.

The performance will be a subject to the jury's and audience's voting (on-line voting available by January 29, 2017), as a result of which 2 composers will be admitted to the final stage of the competition. The world premiere of the complete work will be held in November 2018 at the Grand Theatre in Łódź.

The performance will be recorded and broadcast on the Internet and in Manufaktura Centre.

Jury members: Krzysztof Penderecki, Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa, Elżbieta Penderecka, Urszula Kryger, Maciej Tworek, and Wojciech Rodek.

New composition by Szymon Godziemba-Trytek

New work entitled Hodie scietis, quia veniet Dominus by Szymon Godziemba-Trytek will be premiered by the Polish Radio Choir during the Christmas concert held on December 30, 2016 in Katowice.

The artists under the baton of Szymon Wyrzykowski, joined by the soloist Joanna Słowińska (white voice), will perform also carols arranged by Marek Jasiński for 8-voice choir a cappella. The concert is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage ("Composer-in-residence" programme implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance and "Polish Radio Choir - Musical Dedications" project).

Andriessen Archipelago – final concert

10th edition of the "Purchase of New and Waste Sounds – Sound Republic" project will be concluded with a concert on December 20, 2016 at the Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw.

The project is organized by the Polish Society for Contemporary Music. During 5 open workshops held between December 10 and 19, the participants worked under the guidance of members of the Mud Cavalier and focused on preparing a performance of a composition designed formally as De Staat by Louis Andriessen, learned to work collectively on the piece, engage in effective teamwork, and get acquainted with various aspects of contemporary music. The final outcome of the workshops will be presented during the concert.

Michał Bristiger dies at 95

Michał Bristiger - Polish musicologist, music critic, editor and an honorary member of the Polish Composers’ Union, died on December 16, 2016 at the age of 95.

He studied medicine in Lviv, Bologne and Warsaw, musicology at the Warsaw University, history and theory of music at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome and Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris, as well as attanded piano lessons with Guiseppe Piccioli and Jerzy Lefeld. He participated in numerous musicological conferences in Poland and abroad, and worked for the Institut für die Wissenschaften von Menschen in Vienna, Macerata-Fermo University and universities in Warsaw, Krakow, Poznań, Palermo, and Arcavacata di Rende. He was the author of several radio programmes, and essays and articles published in "Przegląd Kulturalny", "Res Facta", "Res Facta Nova" and "De musica" (internet periodical).

Compositions by Mariusz Dubaj published by Polihymnia

In December 2016, Lublin-based publishing house Polihymnia issued 5 compositions by Mariusz Dubaj.

The list of newly-published scores includes: 12 Etudes for piano (dedicated to Stanisław Drzewiecki), Canti movimenti for piano and strings (premiered in 1987at the Gdańsk Encounters of Young Composers), Pater Noster for mixed choir and strings (dedicated to Prof. Kazimierz Górski and premiered at the Henryk Wieniawski Philharmonic in Lublin), Nowe Modlitwy (New Prayers) for mixed choir (premiered in 2000 in Lublin), and Missa Nova for mixed choir.

Koncert z okazji Roku Feliksa Nowowiejskiego „Mistrzowi – Poznań”

18 grudnia 2016 roku o godz. 17.00 w Poznaniu (aula UAM) odbędzie się Koncert z okazji Roku Feliksa Nowowiejskiego „Mistrzowi – Poznań” .

Na koncercie zaprezentowane zostaną utwory F. Nowowiejskiego inspirowane wątkami literackimi (w tym narodowymi i patriotycznymi), ukazujące niezwykłą różnorodność składu wykonawczego: od pieśni solowej poprzez zespół kameralny, niewielką orkiestrę aż do zespołu chóralnego.

Proponowany program jest też bardzo zróżnicowany stylistycznie, obejmuje takie dzieła kompozytora, jak Śmierć Ellenai op. 32, Don Juan Tenorio, Róże dla Safo op. 51 nr 1, kantata Testament Bolesława Chrobrego op. 48. Utwory zabrzmią w wykonaniu Chóru Uniwersytetu Medycznego im. K. Marcinkowskiego pod dyrekcją Przemysława Pałki, zespołu kameralnego pod kierunkiem Piotra Kostrzewskiego, CoOperate Orchestra pod batutą Adama Domurata. W roli solistów wystąpią: Katarzyna Hołysz – sopran, Paweł Łuczak – tenor, Aleksander Machalica – recytacja, Jakub Koterba – fortepian, Elżbieta Karolak – fortepian.

Patronat medialny nad koncertem objęło Polskie Centrum Informacji Muzycznej POLMIC.

Międzynarodowy Konkurs Kompozytorski Europejskiej Stolicy Kultury Wrocław 2016 rozstrzygnięty!

W ramach Programu Muzycznego Europejskiej Stolicy Kultury Wrocław 2016 Akademia Muzyczna im. Karola Lipińskiego zorganizowała Międzynarodowy Konkurs Kompozytorski na utwór symfoniczny inspirowany kulturą, historią lub naturą Wrocławia. Decyzją Jury przyznano cztery nagrody oraz trzy wyróżnienia honorowe.

Ideą Konkursu było wprowadzenie do światowej literatury muzycznej nowych dzieł symfonicznych związanych z przyznaniem Wrocławiu miana Europejskiej Stolicy Kultury. W założeniu organizatorów kompozycja nagrodzona I Nagrodą stanie się rodzajem „muzycznego pomnika” ESK Wrocław 2016.

Do udziału w Międzynarodowym Konkursie Kompozytorskim nadesłano 65 zgłoszeń. Kompozycje oceniane były przez wybitnych kompozytorów, którzy przyjęli zaproszenie do udziału w pracach Jury Konkursu: Chen Yi (Chiny, USA), Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil (Polska), Ivan Fedele (Włochy), Zygmunt Krauze (Polska) oraz François-Bernard Mâche (Francja). Decyzją Jury I Nagrodę w wysokości 100 000 PLN przyznano Sumio Kobayashi za utwór Music by Krasnale, II Nagrodę w wysokości 50 000 PLN – Marios Joannou Elia za utwór Sprouts, III Nagrodę ex aequo w wysokości 20 000 PLN – Sakiko Kosaka za utwór Kiri-Koto-no-o for Orchestra – to Paulownia tomentosa Steud. In botanical garden of the University of Wroclaw, III Nagrodę ex aequo w wysokości 20 000 PLN – Zheng Shao za utwór A Pilgrimage to Wroclaw, IV Nagrodę w wysokości 10 000 PLN – Carlo Alessandro Landini za utwór View of the Cathedral of Wrocław from the Odra river. Wyróżnienia honorowe otzymali: Grzegorz Wierzba za utwór Echa symfonia stu mostów, Michał Schafer za utwór SAPPHIRI oraz Marco Longo za utwór Wrocławskie krasnale.

Nagrody ufundowane zostały przez Ministerstwo Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego.
