46th Musicological Conference of the Polish Composers' Union "Music and the City" wil be held between October 12-14, 2017 at the Academy of Music in Łódź.
The title of the conference – Music and the city – indicates the relationship between creativity and musical life, and the institutions and functional elements of the city. This relationship will be analyzed from different perspectives and in different contexts, thanks to the participation of ethnologists, historians, musicologists and sociologists.
The opening of the conference, during which the Hieronim Feicht Awards will be handed out, is scheduled for October 12 at 11:00 am. On the same day at 5:00 pm there will be a meeting with a poet and folk singer Zuzanna Bujok from Wisła, entitled Between the village and the city and led by Arleta Nawrocka-Wysocka.
The three-day programme of sessions, held in the building of the Regional Center for Culture, Education and Documentation of the Academy of Music (4 May 1 Avenue), will be completed by two concerts. blokhaus D is the latest part of the cyclic project of the Łódź-based artist Artur Zagajewski (October 12, at 7:30 p.m.). It is a kind of spatial sound installation composed for a specific room. The previous parts of the cycle were presented at the Krakow Cricoteka and the Academy of Music in Wroclaw. Their common features are the unusual exotic instrumentation and the fact that they are performed both by professional musicians and amateurs. The concert In 80 minutes around the world (October 13, at 12.00 p.m.) will include a variety of vocal and instrumental works by Włodzimierz Korcz and Jan Ptaszyna-Wróblewski performed by the Łódź Music Academy professors and students.
