Wrocław | 53rd International Festival Wratislavia Cantans

WrCant

The 53rd International Festival Wratislavia Cantans will take place between September 7-16, 2018 in Lower Silesia.

This year's edition, entitled "Liberation", coincides with the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Poland's regaining independence, which is why the programme includes works by great Polish composers. The repertoire refers to the reflection on freedom understood also as the resolution of internal conflicts, freedom of conscience, independence from the framework of temporality. Above all, however, the Wratislavia Cantans programme is an invitation to celebrate great music in masterful performances.

The starting point of this year's edition is the inaugural King Roger by Karol Szymanowski – an opera showing the attempt to free itself from culture, its moral, social and moral norms. The work of the Polish composer describes the conflict between two aspects of humanity, rationality and instinct, and the attempt to free oneself from the dramatic tear between these contradictory elements.

At the Wratislavia Cantans festival one cannot miss the excellent vocal ensembles. The National Choir of Ukraine Dumka will perform a capella works by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and Ukrainian folk and sacred music. Collegium Musicale from Estonia – also celebrating the centenary of independence – together with the NFM Orchestra Leopoldinum will present Polish and Estonian contemporary music. In the Polish jubilee year, we will present the opera of an extremely interesting composer Elżbieta Sikora, presenting one of the most important Polish women and at the same time one of the greatest figures in the history of science – Maria Skłodowska-Curie. The title character Madame Curie had to fight for the freedom to choose a way of life, facing a series of stereotypes and prejudices against women.

Advance sale of tickets runs until May 31, 2018 or until the pool runs out.
