Kraków | "Saint Luke Passion" under the baton of Kent Nagano

Nagano

During the next concert of the "ICE Classic" cycle, the outstanding conductor Kent Nagano and Orchester Symphonique de Montréal will perform Saint Luke Passion by Krzysztof Penderecki. The event will take place on 18th July 2018 in the ICE Kraków Congress Center.

"In 2018 we celebrate the 85th birthday of Krzysztof Penderecki, one of the most prominent contemporary music composers. For this occasion, his monumental, avant-garde Saint Luke Passion will be performed by the famous Canadian Orchestra Symphonique de Montréal under the baton of Kent Nagano" – says Izabela Helbin, director of the Krakow Festival Office.

Krzysztof Penderecki wrote Saint Luke Passion for the 700th anniversary of the foundation of the cathedral in Münster. The work was premiered there on 30th March 1966, immediately arousing great interest in the music world. The piece combines modern musical means with a sacral form, including references to the works of J.S. Bach. Latin lyrics, quarter-tones arias and a huge group of performers strengthen the power of the work in an extraordinary way. The excellent international cast will be complemented by the participation of outstanding soloists – Sarah Wegener, Lucas Meachem, Matthew Rose – and singers of the Krakow Philharmonic Choir and the Warsaw Boys' Choir.

Tickets priced from PLN 80 to PLN 140 are available at Eventim.pl and different points of sale throughout Poland (including Empik, MediaMarkt, Saturn) and at the InfoKraków Tourist Information Network.
