Kazimierz Rozbicki has passed away

On 2nd July 2018, at the age of 86, Kazimierz Rozbicki has passed away. He was a composer, conductor, journalist (for "Ruch Muzyczny", among others), teacher. He had an immense impact on Polish culture and received such honours as the Bronze Medal “Gloria Arits” and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. Since 1965 he had been a member of the Polish Composers’ Union.

Kazimierz Rozbicki attended the National Higher School of Music in Warsaw. He studied musical composition under Witold Rudzinski (graduated in 1965) and conducting under Bohdan Wodiczko (graduated in 1966). Since 1971 he continued studying composition at the Musical Conservatory in Belgrad under Mihovil Logar. In 1959 he received the I prize for Conterto de camera for two harps and chamber orchestra at a composing competition organised to celebrate 150th anniversary of the Warsaw Music Academy. His composer debut took place in 1960 at the Warsaw Young Composers Concert. His other works were performed in numerous Polish cities as well as in the Leningrad Philharmonic. He composed music for over 30 theatre plays.

Between 1967-73 Rozbicki worked as a conductor at Koszalin Philharmonic. Between 1969-80 he managed The Baltic Drama Theatre in Koszalin. Since 1977 he taught at the Gdansk Music Academy. In the years 1991-2002 he was a teacher at the Higher Pedagogical School (currently the Pomeranian Pedagogical Academy) in Słupsk. From 1999 he lectured at the Koszalin University of Technology. From 1970 he also wrote reviews and published articles about music in the Koszalin press and prepared programmes for the Koszalin Philharmonic. He is the author of several dozen music programmes for the Radio Koszalin. Twice – in 1983 and 1985 – he organized the Mozart Festival in Koszalin, for which he was awarded by "Pobrzeże" monthly. In 2013 he was awarded the Silver Medal "For Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis".

The funeral ceremony will take place on 11th July at 2.00 p.m. at the Municipal Cemetery in Koszalin. The funeral mass will be held on the same day at 9.00 a.m. in the Franciscan Church.
