Orunia

The inaugural concert on the historic Eduard Wittek's organ from 1911 at the St. Jan Bosko church in the Gdansk Orunia district will take place on February 3, 2019 at 7.30 p.m.

Thanks to the initiative of priest Mariusz Słomiński, parish priest of the Jan Bosko Parish in Orunia district, a project of restoration and partial reconstruction of neo-romantic pneumatic organs by Eduard Wittek company from Elbląg, funded in 1911 for the local church by the Hoene family. Organ in Orunia district is currently the only fully functional and stylistically coherent instrument from the turn of the 19th and 20th century in the Gdańsk agglomeration, which enables the presentation of romantic and neoromantic organ and chamber music in the most faithful form.

The ceremonial Inauguration of the organ will give us the opportunity to listen to the various possibilities of the instrument in solo and chamber music. The artists from Gdańsk will present works of Antonín Dvořák, Gioaccino Rossini, Stanisław Moniuszko, Konstanty Gorski, and Andrzej Szadejko, who has just been nominated for the "Fryderyk" award for the album Musica Baltica Vol. 4. Johann Jeremias du Grain  Sacred Cantatas. In addition, the premiere of Emil Miszek's Forgetfulness for trumpet and organ will take place.

The organ restoration and conservation project was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as part of the "Conservation of Historic Monuments" programme and funds of the City of Gdańsk.
