Olszyn | Discovered anew

FWM

"Discovered anew ..." is the title of the symphonic concert on March 15, 2019, at 7.00 p.m. at the Warmian-Masurian Philharmonic in Olsztyn. The Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under Jerzy Swoboda will perform with pianist Cezary Sanecki – the rector of the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź.

The concert will start with Toccata from Suite, Op. 10 by Bolesław Szabelski. The piece has become popular both in Poland and abroad, especially at the end of the fifties, when Leopold Stokowski and the Chicago Orchestra incorporated it into their international repertoir. Next, we will listen to the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Grażyna Bacewicz. Bacewicz's work, written in 1949 for the competition organized on the 100th anniversary of Chopin's death by the Polish Composers' Union, is one of the most important examples of neoclassicism in 20th-century music. The second part of the evening will be filled with César Franck's Symphony in D minor.

The concert is held under the patronage of the PWM Edition as part of the TUTTI.pl project promoting the performances of Polish music.
