Szczecin | Sibelius, Lutosławski and Czajkowski

L

Witold Lutosławski's Livre pour orchestre will be performed on April 26, 2019 at 7.00 p.m. at the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin.

The title of the work literally means a "Book for orchestra", and refers to the old ideas of combining a collection of miniatures for one instrument into one volume, for example Livres pour clavesin by François Couperin and Orgelbüchlein by Bach. The composition date from 1968, from the aleatoric period in Lutosławski's work. Apart from the last one, the piece was divided into conducted Chapitres (Chapters) and Intermèdes (Intermedia), which, like the last Chapter, are played by musicians independently (ad libitum).

The Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jerzy Salwarowski will also perform Jean Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D minor, the most frequently performed and recorded 20th-century concerto, and the Fantasy Overture ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Piotr Pławnem will perform as a soloist.
