Kraków | Percussion Music at the Philharmonic

FK

On May 26, 2019 at 6.00 p.m. the Krakow Philharmonic will turn into a temple of percussion music. The 11th edition of "Meetings with Music for Percussion" received the subtitle "Abstract sounds" primarily due to the use of a group of unpitched percussion instruments, specially designed for the needs of this event, such as tuned gas cylinders, wooden drums and many more.

The idea behind the meetings is to popularize percussion music, try to present new ideas and involve the young generation of drummers to pursue joint projects. This is due to Ryszard Haba – an excellent drummer, and at the same time the originator and main performer of the "Meetings with Percussion Music". The main protagonist of this year's concert will be the Haba Percussion Group led by a young conductor, Joanna Natalia Ślusarczyk. The guests invited to the project are: the concertmaster of the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra – Paweł Wajrak, oboist Mariusz Pędziałek, organist Michał Białko and marimba player Adam Wygoda. The spiritus movens of the whole series, Ryszard Haba, will play marimba, vibraphone and drums.

The premiere attractions of the concert include the premiere of Cadenza and Toccata for marimba, bells, timpani and organ, specially written for the occasion by Lech Skoczylas, and Hayren by Vache Sharafyan, based on the Armenian medieval form of the poem with a specific rhythm of 7,8,7,8. The programme will also include Dmaathen for oboe and percussion by Iannis Xenakis and Polish premiere of the Concerto for organ and percussion by American composer Lou Harrison.
