On 6th June 2019 falls the 90th birthday of Bogusław Schaeffer, an extraordinary composer and playwright. On this occasion, on Sunday, 2nd June 2019 at 6.00 p.m., the Kraków Philharmonic will host a concert titled "Schaeffer Muzyka Centrum".
The title of the event refers to the composer's long-term relationship with the Muzyka Centrum ensemble, founded in 1977 by his student, Marek Chołoniewski. Bogusław Schaeffer from the very beginning was its spiritual father, authority, friend and member. Among the performers of the philharmonic concert there will be co-founders of the ensemble: Mariusz Pędziałek, Kazimierz Pyzik, Olga Szwajgier, Jan Pilch, Jan Cielecki, and also Dominika Peszko, who joined in 2015, and Artur Lis, who is strongly associated with the ensemble.
The programme of the jubilee concert consists of works from various periods of the composer's work, using unusual innovative formal and expressive solutions as well as intermedia elements. These pieces are also an important part of the repertoire of the 42-year activity of the Muzyka Centrum. Free Form I was premiered on January 13, 1978 in the Krzysztofory Gallery in Kraków, Bewegung was written especially for the Muzyka Centrum ensemble, while Proietto Simultaneo was premiered at the "Warsaw Autumn" Festival in 1982. A surprise of the evening will be the Creative Act, a composition in the form of a script that will be performed for the first time in front of an audience.
