Warsaw | 250th birth anniversary of Józef Elsner

Elsner

An extraordinary concert to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Józef Elsner's birth will be held on 3rd June 2019 at 6.00 p.m. at the Palace on the Island in the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw.

Born on 1st June 1769, the composer, conductor, pedagogue and music culture activist represents in Polish music the classical style of the pre-Chopin period, based on a combination of the Viennese classics with elements of Polish folk music. An important place in Elsner's output occupies religious music (about 130 works) as well as various genres of opera music. The honorary place he has taken in the history of music as a teacher of Chopin cannot, however, overshadow his contribution to the development of national musical culture.

During the concert in the Łazienki Park, violinist Sławomir Tomasik and pianist Robert Morawski will perform. The programme will feature Polish music, including the works by Józef Elsner, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Grażyna Bacewicz and Karol Szymanowski. The concert will be led by Maxymilian Bylicki, Director of the Institute of Music and Dance.

Admission free, although prior reservation is required at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The organizer of the concert is the Institute of Music and Dance and the Tadeusz Wroński's Violin Foundation, supported from the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
