Szczecin | International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra – Final Concert

ILYO

The final concert of the seventh edition of the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra project will take place on 30 August 2019 at 7 p.m. at the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin.

In the second half of August, young musicians trained their skills under the guidance of specialists. During the final concert of this year's edition, talented artists of the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra under the baton of its Artistic Director Rune Bergmann will perform works by Witold Lutosławski and Dmitri Shostakovich.

The programme of the final concert will feature Variations on a Theme of Paganini by Witold Lutosławski, based on the well-known Paganini's Caprice in A minor, Op. 1 No. 24 for violin solo. In 1977, Lutosławski transcribed the composition for piano and orchestra. The soloist's part will be performed by pianist Jan Wachowski. On the eve of the anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra will also perform Symphony No. 7 in C major „Leningrad", Op. 60, written by Dmitri Shostakovich in 1941, during the siege of the city by the Nazis. The premiere of the work took place on the 335th day of the siege, performed by extremely exhausted musicians of the radio orchestra. The sound of the work reflects all the drama caused by the war.
