Lublin | 6th International Wieniawski Brothers Festival

Festiwal Wieniawskich

6th edition of the International Wieniawski Brothers Festival will be held at the Lublin Philharmonic on 21-27 September 2019.

The festival aims to present the musical heritage of the brothers: brilliant violinist Henryk and excellent pianist Józef Wieniawski – well-known virtuosos and composers of the 19th century. However, the programme also includes music by composers related to Lublin – the hometown of Wieniawski, Polish composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, and masterpieces of European music.

The festival will be inaugurated by an extraordinary recital by Corina Marti – Swiss harpsichordist, flute and early keyboard instruments teacher at the Scholi Cantorum Basiliensis. The artist will present works from the tablature of Jan of Lublin, one of the greatest musical monuments of the 16th-century Europe, on the new Philharmonic instrument – a copy of the wing harpsichord, made according to the museum patterns of the 18th-century creator Pascal Taskin.

On 24 September, Norwegian pianist Aksel Kolstad, called the "Quentin Tarantino of classical music", and Agnieszka Schulz-Brzyska, lecturer at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, will present works by Józef Wieniawski, Władysław Żeleński, Fryderyk Chopin, Stanisław Moniuszko, Sergiusz Rachmaninow, Claude Debussy, and Aksel Kolstad.

The festival will culminate in an extraordinary symphony concert under the baton of Wojciech Rodek together with Georgius Osokin – winner of the 9th International Chopin Piano Competition in Moscow (2014), finalist of the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin  Piano Competition (2015). The artists will present symphonic works by Antonin Dvořák and Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21 by Fryderyk Chopin.
