Łódź | Penderecki and Kilar at the Łódź Philharmonic

FŁ

The concert at the Lodz Philharmonic on 24 January 2020 at 7.00 p.m. will feature the string section of the Łódź Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Tomasz Gołębiewski and 13-year-old Ryan Martin Bradshaw, a talented Slovak pianist. The musicians will perform works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Edvard Grieg, Wojciech Kilar and Krzysztof Penderecki.

Krzysztof Penderecki's Three pieces in old style were originally composed as film music, whereas Orawa by Wojciech Kilar, a well-known composer of both classical and film music, is his most popular symphonic work. The latter piece was inspired by the Podhale folklore and belongs to the series of works devoted to the Tatra mountains. The cycle of Three pieces in old style is a pastiche of 18th-century music, in which Penderecki makes use of nearly untransformed elements of historical sound language. Early music also inspired Edvard Grieg, whose suite "From Holberg's Time" was written on the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of the Danish writer Ludwig Holberg.

The programme of the concert will also include Piano Concerto in A major KV 414 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which will be performed by Ryan Martin Bradshaw. Born in 2006, he started to play piano at the age of 6. Since 2016 he has studied at the University of Music and Performaning Arts in Vienna with Prof. Vladimir Kharin. This young Slovak pianist won the 1st prize at the Bela Bartok International Piano Competition in Graz (2017), 3rd prize at the Internationa Franz Liszt Piano competition in Weimar (2017), and 1st Prize and grand Jury prize at the Viennna International Art Open Music Competition (2017). Last summer, he won the first place in his age group at the 27th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Szafarnia.
