FN

The next concert of the "Stage for Polish Music" programme will take place on Wednesday, 19 February 2020 at the Warsaw Philharmonic, featuring Gruppo di Tempera.

The “Stage for Polish Music” is a new project of the Institute of Music and Dance aimed at Polish music performers and organised in collaboration with the Warsaw Philharmonic and arts institutions in Poland. Programmes featuring Polish music, selected on the basis of a competition, will be presented at the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Hall and then repeated in other cities in Poland. The goal of the project is to inspire musicians to prepare concert programmes featuring Polish music, promote the performance of Polish musical works as well as draw listeners’ attention to Polish music, especially lesser known pieces.

The program of the upcoming concert will include four twentieth-century quintets for wind instruments. Tadeusz Szeligowski's Quintet was written in 1953 and is characterized by a great sense of the capabilities of each instrument, from the very first measures captivating with optimism and lightness of the sound. Grażyna Bacewicz's Quintet for wind instruments is the most important piece composed during her stay on a scholarship in Paris. The composition won the first prize at the Competition for composers, organized by the Aide auxfemmes de professions libres Society. You can easily find folk motifs in the Quintet for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn by Wojciech Kilar from 1952. The Quintet for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon by Michał Spisak was commissioned in 1948 by the Polish Composers' Union. The chamber concert will culminate with La danse de la sorcière – the excerpt from the ballet Le Jardin du Paradis by Alexander Tansman.
