Katarzyna Morawska has passed away...

Katarzyna Morawska, musicologist, died in Warsaw on 7 April 2020. She was a member of the Polish Composers' Union from 1965.

Throughout her professional life she was associated with the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1954-1995). From 1956 to 1967 she was the secretary of the editorial board of the "Dictionary of Polish Musicians". In 1972-1993 she was the deputy editor-in-chief and in 1993-1995 editor-in-chief of the 'Muzyka' quarterly.

Her research work was devoted to the music of the 14th-16th centuries, Polish and international, especially organ music, and the history of music historiography in Poland in early music research. Katarzyna Morawska was the author of source-documentary and lexicographic studies. She made, among others, transcription of the Jan z Lublina tablature. She wrote two volumes in the "History of Polish Music" series: The Renaissance. 1500-1600 (1994) and The Middle Ages. 1320-1500 (1998).

She lectured at the Academy of Catholic Theology (now the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński) in Warsaw (1970-1979) and the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (1972-1979).

She was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit and the honorary badge Meritorious Activist of Culture.
