Licheń | 2nd "Basilica sonans" International Licheń Organ Music Festival

Andrzej Chorosiński's concert entitled "Music and Word" will inaugurate the 2nd "Basilica Sonans" International Licheń Organ Music Festival on 5 July 2020. Festival concerts will be held every Sunday at 2.30 p.m. until 30 August.

The organ of the Basilica of Our Lady of Licheń are currently the largest instrument in Poland and the fourth largest in Europe. In the world ranking they are in 10th place among sacred instruments. They were designed by Andrzej Chorosinski and are composed of 5 independent sections, arranged in several places.

As part of the "Basilica sonans" Festival, well-known European organists will present works by, among others, Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Richard Wagner, as well as Fryderyk Chopin, Feliks Nowowiejski and Mieczysław Surzyński.

The inaugural concert dedicated to St. John Paul II on his100th birth anniversary will include Bach's Toccata in D minor, Chopin's Etude in C sharp minor, Op. 25 No. 7 and nocturnes, Surzyński's Elegy in F sharp minor by M. Surzyński and the finale of Guilmanta's Symphony No. 1 in D minor, Op. 42. The programme will also include St. John Paul II's texts read by Michał Chorosiński, well-known theater and film actor, who played young Karol Wojtyła in Renaissance Psalter.

Organ music lovers who cannot come to Licheń will be able to follow the concerts thanks to a live broadcast from the Licheń Basilica on the website http://www.lichen.pl/, as well as on YouTube and Facebook.
