Gdańsk | Concert performance of Aleksander Nowak's opera "ahat-ilī – Sister of Gods"

A concert performance of the opera ahat-ilī – Sister of Gods by Aleksander Nowak, composed to a libretto by the Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk, will take place on 31 August 2020 at 7.00 p.m. at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk. On the same day, a blu-ray with the recording of the opera will go on sale, inaugurating the "Images" series, which is part of Anaklasis a record company operating under the auspices of PWM.

"A moving opera fresco", "a wonderful new opera", "a contemporary opera that should be an export product of Polish culture" ahat-ilī Sister of Gods was commissioned by the Kraków Festival Office for the Sacrum Profanum Festival in 2018, where it was first performed and recorded, immediately winning the hearts of the audience and delighting the critics. The music was composed by Aleksander Nowak, the libretto was penned by the Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk. The performance was directed by Pia Partum,  with sets designed by Magdalena Maciejewska.

On 31 August, during the ceremony of presenting the European Poet of Freedom 2020 Literary Award of the City of Gdańsk, the opera will be performed in concert by outstanding soloists: Joanna Freszel, Urszula Kryger, Ewa Biegas, Jan Jakub Monowid, Sebastian Szumski, Bartłomiej Misiuda and Szymon Kobyliński. They will be accompanied by the excellent Camerata Silesia and AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy under the direction of Marek Moś. The event will be attended by the Nobel Prize winner who sits in the award chapter.

The "Images" series, which is part of the Anaklasis brand, will be inaugurated by the album ANA 001 with the recording of the premiere performance of the opera ahat-ilī Sister of Gods. The CD also includes Jan Sosiński's documentary Operation opera, devoted to Aleksander Nowak and produced in cooperation with PWM Edition and Polish Television.
