Warsaw | Musical Seasons – Autumn 2020

Polish Composers' Union – Warsaw Branch invites you to a concert in the series "Musical Seasons - Autumn", which will take place on 24 September 2020 at 5.00 p.m. at the PWM Edition office in Warsaw (8 Fredry St.).

Pianist Igor Torbicki, who specializes in contemporary music perfomance, will present pieces from the series Miniatures by Władysław Słowiński, Eclosion by Carlos E. Malcolm,Two Inscriptions for Witold Lutosławski by Jerzy Bauer, Etudes for piano by Artur Cieślak, and Hommage à J. S. Bach by Romuald Twardowski.

In addition, the pianist will premiere compositions by Paweł Kwapiński, Jan Oleszkowicz and Anna Ignatowicz-Glińska. Paweł Kwapiński's Espressioni is based on virtuoso techniques of playing the keyboard as well as inside the instrument. Thus, the work is a kind of synthesis of traditional and avant-garde virtuosity. Jan Oleszkowicz Genotypes cycle of miniatures for piano was written especially for the concert "Musical Seasons – Autumn". The sound material used in the miniatures is based on appropriately selected and processed scales and rhythmic permutations, creating specific sound "chains", characteristic for each of the miniatures. Anna Ignatowicz-Glińska's nAdAl was dedicated to the composer, improviser and pianist Ryszard Alzin (the title is a pun on the incipits of Anna and Alzin). The composition is about weaving... Shaping a narrative is making a digression on the margin of the "theme" (repetitive structure), and drawing consequences from this theme, migrating to other aesthetic regions.
