Gorzów | Polish Independence Concert

FGTraditionally, the Gorzów Philharmonic invites you to a meeting with Polish music  during the independence concert, which will take place on 11 November 2020 at 7.00 p.m. This time we will listen to the works of Mieczysław Karłowicz, representative of Young Poland, and Romantic composer Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński.

Mieczysław Karłowicz – a composer with unprecedented sensitivity – created his own, original musical world with a specific type of expression. There is a lot of reflection and wistfulness, especially on the ultimate things. Serenade for string orchestra, Op. 2 (1896) refers to its well-known predecessors – serenades written, among others, by Mozart, Tchaikovsky or Dvorák. Musically, however, it takes us to the extraordinary world of Karłowicz, full of lyrical melancholy balancing between sadness and consolation.

“Uncommon ability” – this is how Ignacy Dobrzyński's talent was described by his teacher Józef Elsner. The composer of Chopin's age, as well as conductor and pianist, devoted himself mainly to symphonic and opera music. Although his Symphony No. 1 in B flat major (1829) still has many features of a mature classical style, stylistically it belongs to early Romanticism. As for the work of the 22-year-old composer, it is a very skilfully constructed symphony, abundant in many charming themes and chords. It is significant that Dobrzyński dedicated it to Tsar Nicholas I, who then wore the Polish crown.

The Gorzów Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Jan Miłosz Zarzycki.
