"Profiles of Composers": Juliusz Łuciuk

ŁuciukThe Bronisław Huberman Częstochowa Philharmonic invites you on 5 February 2021 at 7.00 p.m. for the next YouTube premiere of a monographic concert from the "Profiles of Composers" series. The Collegium Cantorum Choir of the Częstochowa Philharmonic under the direction of Janusz Siadlak will present works by Juliusz Łuciuk, an outstanding composer of religious and vocal music.

A graduate of music schools in Częstochowa, in 1947-52 he studied musicology with Zdzisław Jachimecki at the Jagellonian University. Simultaneously, in 1947-56, he studied theory of music with Aleksander Frączkiewicz, composition with Stanisław Wiechowicz, piano with Sergiusz Nadgryzowski and Jan Hoffman as well as organ with Józef Chwedczuk at the State Higher School of Music in Krakow. He continued his musical education in Paris, where in 1958-59 he studied composition with Nadia Boulanger and Max Deutsch as well as attended Olivier Messiaen's seminars. Since his graduation, he had been solely occupied with composition, for which he received numerous awards.

In 2018 the Collegium Cantorum Choir of the Częstochowa Philharmonic under the direction of Janusz Siadlak recorded the monographic album Juliusz Łuciuk. Choral works, which was created in cooperation with the composer. He supervised its implementation and final shape, making sure that his thoughts were perfectly expressed by the artists as accurately as possible. It includes pieces not yet recorded, as well as a completely new work composed for maestro Janusz Siadlak, Lullaby on the Cradle to the words of Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński.
