"Resounds: New Polish Music": Transcending the matter

SVUnusual experiments with matter – not only that of sound – will be one of the main themes of the March concert of Sinfonia Varsovia in the series "Resounds. New Polish Music".The concert will be live streamed on 13 March 2021 at 8.00 p.m. on Sinfonia Varsovia’s YouTube channel and Facebook. The programme includes premieres of works by Teoniki Rożynek and Edward Sielicki as well as pieces by Sofia Gubaidulina and Włodzimierz Kotoński. Sinfonia Varsovia will perform under the direction of the Russian conductor Mikhail Agrest.

The concert will begin with the premiere of Teoniki Rożynek's Nox (2016) for string ensemble and brass stands. The composer is known for her experimental research in electronic music. In her latest piece, Rożynek uses a permanent element of the concert landscape that usually does not attract attention. The sound of the orchestra is enriched by the sound of the brass instruments stands vibrating harmoniously with the bows.

The second premiere of the March "Resounds" is Edward Sielicki's Symphony Concertante No. 3 (2020), which was created as part of the "Composing Commissions" programme carried out by the Institute of Music and Dance. The composer, drawing upon the tradition of the concertante symphony (an intermediate genre between the symphony and the concerto), offers a new perspective on the relationship between solo and orchestral parts. The solo group includes flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, and percussion. The extended percussion is the connective tissue between the above-mentioned instruments and the strings, piano, and harp.

A pre-concert meeting with Teoniki Rożynek, Edward Sielicki and Adam Suprynowicz (music journalist), hosted by Agata Kwiecińska, will start at 7:00 p.m.
