Academic Conference "Recorded Music. Sound Photographs of Polish Music Culture", organised by the Studio of Musical Culture and Folklore Studies at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, will be held on 14-16 April 2021.
The sessions will be devoted to sound photographs of traditional and high culture as well as resources of phonographic archives. We will hear papers on audiovisual collections, places and methods of their deposit and sharing, and technical issues related to the implementation of "sound photographs" (recording and reintroducing archival materials to the circuit of culture).
The invitation to participate in the conference was accepted by music theorists, musicologists, ethnomusicologists, historians, archivists, sound directors, originators and producers of radio and television programmes documenting various manifestations of music making in Poland. We will have representatives of the Institute of Music and Dance, Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, and Polish Radio of Pomerania and Kujawy.
Izabela Zymer, who represents the Polish Composers' Union and the Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC, will present a paper on Concert recordings of Polish contemporary music in the collection of the Polish Composers' Union – POLMIC Music Library.
The conference will be accompanied by an online concert "From sound photography ...", presenting rare recordings from the music collection of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music and interviews with prof. Marcin Gmys, director of Radio Chopin.
