Katowice | Camerata Silesia at NOSPR

NOSPRThe Camerata Silesia Katowice City Singers' Ensemble conducted by Anna Szostak will perform Henryk Mikołaj Górecki's cycles of folk songs on 11 June 2021 at 7.30 p.m. at the Chamber Hall of the National Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Henryk Mikołaj Góecki's Wieczór ciemny się uniża [Dark Evening is Falling], Op. 45 for mixed choir a cappella, composed in 1981, is an arrangement of melodies from the Kurpie Region from the collection of Jadwiga Gorzechowska and Maria Kaczurbina. The other song cycles for mixed choir a cappella Ach, mój wianku lawendowy [O my little garland of lavender], Op. 50 and Idzie chmura, pada deszcz [Cloud comes, rain falls], Op. 51 (1984), are based on texts and melodies collected by Oskar Kolberg in Volume 39: Pomerania. The Complete Works.

The second part of the concert will be filled with negro spirituals, ecstatic religious songs of African Americans: Elijah Rock, Nobody Knows, Plenty Good Room, Hold On!, I Hear a Voice A-Prayin', Steal Away, Ezekiel Saw de Wheel.

The Camerata Silesia ensemble, formed in 1990 by the charismatic conductor Anna Szostak, is valued above all for the perfect performances of contemporary music. Since 2014, Camerata Silesia has been organizing an original series of concerts at the new seat of the NOSPR, presenting a diverse repertoire, including both classical music as well as jazz and popular music arrangements.
