The 2nd and 3rd editions of the Piano-Tężnia Festival, which was canceled last year due to a pandemic, will be held between 11 July and 22 August 2021. The idea of the festival, financed from the Civic Budget of the City of Katowice, is to combine the health-promoting properties of the Brine Graduation Tower in the Zadole Park in Katowice and music interpreted by outstanding pianists. Admission free!
This year, piano recitals will take place in the park’s Amphitheatre near the Brine Graduation Tower. The first of this year’s editions of the festival (11 July –1 August) is organised by the Municipal Cultural Centre "Ligota" in Katowice. On the next 4 Sundays at 5 p.m., there will be performances by: Anna Górecka, Piotr Sałajczyk, Beata Bilińska and Szczepan Kończal. The next edition (8–22 August ), organised by the Katowice City of Gardens – Krystyna Bochenek Institution of Culture, will include recitals by Andrzej Wierciński, Michał Dziewior, Mateusz Tomica and Paweł Tomaszewski (the last two concerts will take place on 22 August at 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.).
The artists will present a diverse repertoire, which will include piano masterpieces – sonatas by Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Sergei Prokofiev, miniatures by Claude Debussy, George Gershwin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, as well as Polish music: two recitals will be composed exclusively of Fryderyk Chopin’s pieces. There will also be works by Władysław Żeleński, Juliusz Zarębski, Bolesław Woytowicz, Grażyna Bacewicz and Ludomir Różycki, as well as Paweł Tomaszewski’s original program for the finale.
On 5 consecutive Sundays (11 July–8 August), immediately after the recitals of the Piano-Tężnia Festival, at 6.30 p.m., there will be workshops organised by MCC "Ligota" called "Breathing by singing", during which invited artists and vocal groups will sing popular songs with the audience.
