55th International Organ Festival in Koszalin

KoszalinThe 55th edition of one of the largest and oldest festivals in Poland – the International Organ Festival in Koszalin – will be inaugurated on 2 July 2021 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The festival organized by the Stanisław Moniuszko Koszalin Philharmonic will last until 27 August, comprising a total of 26 concerts.

In addition to the nine main events, which will be held on the following Fridays at 7.15 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, concerts will take place in Bobolice, Mielno, Darłowo, Sarbinowo, Tychów, Ustronie Morskie and Jamno. We will hear organists from Poland, including Władysław Szymański, Wacław Golonka, Paweł Wróbel, Józef Serafin, Wiktor Brzuchacz, Józef Kotowicz, Bogdan Narloch, Zbigniew Gach, and guests from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Italy and the USA.

Organ music will be performed in the first part of the concerts. The second part will be filled with all sorts of genres and styles. We will hear the most beautiful pieces of organ, chamber and symphonic music, including works by Polish composers: Stanisław Moniuszko – Prelude on the theme of the song "Who takes care"; Mieczysław Surzyński – Chaconne, Op. 14, Capriccio, Op. 36 No. 4, Improvisations on the Polish church song "Holy God", Op. 38; Marian Sawa – Laudes, Chant triste, Op. 36 No.2, Fugue-Bolero.

The final concert will feature Piotr Moss' "According to Memling" – Concerto for flute, organ and orchestra. It will be the second performance of the work which premiered on 28 February 2020 at the Frederic Chopin Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk. The composition was inspired by The Last Judgment triptych by Dutch painter Hans Memling. It was composed for Łukasz Długosz and Roman Perucki, who will perform on 27 August with the Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Jacek Rogala.
