Łódź | "Pianos of Freedom" – Kośmieja plays Hofmann, Tansman, Friedman and Chopin

Fortepiany wolnosciPianist Adam Kośmieja, gifted with an extraordinary musical sensitivity, will perform works by composers of Jewish origin: Józef Hofmann, Aleksander Tansman, Ignacy Friedman. The programme will also include compositions by Fryderyk Chopin. The concert will take place on 1 August 2021 at 7.00 p.m. at the Marek Edelman Dialogue Centre in Łódź.

The project which consists of piano chamber concerts organised in the city space of Łódź was initiated by the Soundedit Festival in 2018. The "Pianos of Freedom" is a fringe event of the 13th edition of the Festival.

Adam Kośmieja is a rising star of Polish avant-garde pianism. In 2011 he graduated from the Manhattan School of Music where he studied piano with Solomon Mikowsky. He has performed at a number of great venues throughout the world including New York’s Carnegie Hall and CCOM Concert Hall in Beijing. In 2009, he won the first prize in the Mieczysław Münz Competiton in New York, and in 2010, the first prize in the Columbia University's Chopin Piano Competition. He was also awarded the Harold and Helen Schonberg Pianist Scholarship, established in memory of the long-time leading music critic of The New York Times. Adam Kośmieja's repertoire and concert experience range from baroque to contemporary and experimental music, with particular emphasis on 20th-century music.
