Kraków | 2nd "Szymanowski / Poland / World" Fesitval

FKThe 2nd edition of the "Szymanowski / Poland / World" Festival will be held on 4-25 September 2021 at the Krakow Philharmonic. This year's unique edition reflects the activities of the recently established SZYMANOWSKI Visegrad Music Platform, which brings together cultural institutions from the countries of the Visegrad Group.

The Festival will be inaugurated by the Orchestra of the Leoš Janáček Philharmonic in Ostrava. Czech artists under the baton of Robert Jindra will present Bohuslav Martinů's Magic Nights as well as Karol Szymanowski's Penthesilea and Concert Symphony No. 4. The solo parts will be performed by soprano Kateřina Kněžíkova and pianist Tomáš Vrána.

Alongside the ensembles of the Krakow Philharmonic under the baton of their artistic director Alexander Humala, the festival will feature ensembles from partner institutions of Central and Eastern Europe. In addition to the aforementioned Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, we will hear the Slovak Sinfonietta from Žilina and artists from Hungary.

The festival audience will hear both works from the standard repertoire of the Krakow Philharmonic, including Karol Szymanowski's Symphony No. 2, which will be presented in the original version from 1910, as well as rarely performed works by Eugen Suchoň, Ján Cikker, Ľubica Čekovska and Ilya Zeljenka, presented by musicians from Slovakia.
