Rzeszów | 2nd Stanisław Moniuszko International Competition of Polish Music begins on 11 September!

NIMiTPolish music will be performed by 86 artists from three continents on 11-18 September 2021 at the Rzeszów Philharmonic. The musicians will compete for a total prize pool of EUR 80,000 in two competition categories: pianists and chamber ensembles. The 2nd Stanisław Moniuszko International Competition of Polish Music, carried out by the National Institute of Music and Dance, is a member of the Alink-Argerich Foundation’s piano competitions network. The Competition is financed by the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, under the honorary auspices of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda.

Preparations for the 2nd edition of the competition took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was unfavorable for artistic activity, especially on international level. Nevertheless, more candidates entered the competition than in the first edition. The participants prepared their own artistic programmes, selecting works from the oeuvre of 56 Polish composers for each stage of the competition.

“We are starting the competition on 10 September with a concert of the winners of the previous edition. We will hear the Russian pianist Pavel Dombrovski and the Polish Violin Duo – Marta Gidaszewska and Robert Łaguniak. Among this year's participants are representatives not only from Poland, but also from Japan, the United States, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and the Czech Republic. We have no doubts that in September we will have a beautiful celebration of Polish music" – summed up Katarzyna Meissner, director of the National Institute of Music and Dance.

The inaugural concert on 10 September and daily live broadcasts of the next stages of the competition on 11-17 September, as well as the award ceremony and concert of the winners on 18 September, will be available to watch live on the National Institute of Music and Dance's YouTube channel and Facebook page.

From the second stage, the Competition will be accompanied by a journalism workshop conducted by Jacek Marczyński, organised by NIMiT together with "Ruch Muzyczny" and PWM Edition. Articles reporting on the progress of the competition will be published in a daily competition bulletin on the website: https://konkursmuzykipolskiej.pl/
