Cracow | 34 Cracow International Festival of Composers

The 34th Cracow International Festival of Composers (under the honorary patronage of Jacek Majchrowski, the Mayor of Krakow) will be held between 23rd and 30th of April 2022. This year’s edition’s leitmotif will be ‘Tradition in contemporary music’. Jerzy Stankiewicz, Teresa Malecka, Agnieszka Draus and Maciej Jabłoński will present their papers at the Festival’s conference session. Kinga Kiwała will lead the session.

An important part of the festival program will be the 5th Krzysztof Penderecki International Competition for Young Composers. This year's jury awarded the Main Prize to Krystian Neścior (born 1992) for the piece Palimpsest for string orchestra.

Traditionally, the festival will feature a presentation of the Electroacoustic Music Studio of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Cracow.

The Festival will also include a lecture by Prof. Zbigniew Bargielski ‘A few reflections on my concept of musical form’. He will also give a masterclass for students of composition at the Cracow Music Academy.

During 8 Festival concerts the works of composers from Poland, England, Estonia, France, Georgia, Japan, Ukraine, Italy and the USA will be presented. 20 world premieres and 4 Polish premieres will take place.

Audience can participate in all Festival events which will also be broadcasted online on official YouTube channel (Krakow International Festival of Composers).
