The 3rd International Polish Music Competition will take place on July 2-9, 2023 at the Artur Malawski Podkarpacie Philharmonic Hall in Rzeszów. The event is one of the flagship projects of the National Institute of Music and Dance. The competition strives to promote Polish music and its composers internationally.
- The National Institute of Music and Dance is pleased to invite musicians of all nationalities to participate in the 3rd edition of the International Polish Music Competition. This unique event, addressed to pianists and chamber ensembles, with no age limits, showcases the diversity and richness of Polish music - says Lech Dzierżanowski, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Music and Dance and Artistic Director of the Competition. - Participants may only present the works by 60 Polish composers included in the program, such as: Grażyna Bacewicz, Roman Maciejewski, Henryk Pachulski, Zygmunt Stojowski, and Maria Szymanowska. We hope that the Competition will help broaden the international audience's knowledge of Polish music, especially that written in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.

Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to perform works by Polish composers from outside the competition list. In the third edition of the ICPM, the prize pool will increase to EUR 100,000. Six main prizes will be awarded in each category. In 2023, the performance of a piece by one of the following composers will be recognized with an award of €1,000: in the Pianists category - Antoni Stolpe, Eugeniusz Pankiewicz (125th death anniversary), Raul Koczalski (75th death anniversary), and in the Chamber Ensembles category - also Antoni Stolpe, Witold Maliszewski (150th birthday anniversary), and Antoni Szałowski (50th death anniversary).
As in the previous editions, this year's Competition has envisaged a range of non-statutory special prizes, including concerts in Polish and foreign concert institutions.
Participants will be reimbursed for their travel expenses and stay in Rzeszów. The Organizer will provide each participant with accommodation and board from the day of the acoustic rehearsal until the end of their participation in the Competition.
Last year's edition of the event attracted 86 artists from three continents. The winning pianist was the Canadian Carter Johnson, and in the chamber ensemble category, the main prize went to the Książek Piano Duo (Poland), composed of: Agnieszka Zahaczewska-Książek and Krzysztof Książek. Also awarded were 38 special prizes.
The first edition of the Competition took place in 2019 and attracted 81 participants from 6 countries. The winner in the piano category was Pavel Dombrovsky of Russia, while the main prize in the chamber ensemble category went to Polish violinists Marta Gidaszewska and Robert Łaguniak, currently performing under the name Polish Violin Duo.
The call for applications will be announced at the beginning of 2023.
The competition is organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance in cooperation with the Artur Malawski Podkarpacie Philharmonic in Rzeszów, and financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
