Yesterday, on the 26th of February in Warsaw, at the age of 90, a musicologist, Prof. Jerzy Morawski, member of the Polish Composers' Union since 1964, in 1969-1973 - secretary, and in 1973-1975 - chairman of the Section of Musicologists of the Polish Composers' Union, passed away in Warsaw

He graduated from the Institute of Musicology at the University of Warsaw and the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. He lectured at the University of Warsaw (1968-1970), Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (1970-1974) and the Jagiellonian University in Cracow (1971-1984, 1999). He worked for almost 50 years at the Art Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1956-2005). His scientific interests focused on the theory and history of music in the Middle Ages, Classicism and early Romanticism. He collaborated with the PWM Music Encyclopedia as a scientific editor of the ‘Middle Ages’ section and the author of entries (since 1970).

He received the badges for Merit to the Opole Region (1974), for Merit for the Protection of Monuments (1979), and the Golden Cross of Merit (1985). In 2014, he was decorated with the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
