SinfoniaVarsovia 20.3.23

Sinfonia Varsovia's 39th birthday is approaching - on this occasion, the Warsaw orchestra invites you to celebrate together during the Birthday Concert. The event will take place on the 20th of March, 2023 at 19:00 at the Grand Theatre - Polish National Opera. The programme will include Symphony No. 1 in D major "Titan" by Gustav Mahler, Adagietto from the opera Paradise Lost by Krzysztof Penderecki and the first performance of Ash by Paweł Mykietyn. Sinfonia Varsovia will be conducted by Aleksandar Marković.

The concert will begin with Krzysztof Penderecki's Adagietto, who from 1997 until his death in 2020 led the orchestra, first as its music director, and then as its artistic director. During the event, a version of this composition from 2006 for English horn and string orchestra will be performed, intended for concert performance as an autonomous work. The first oboist of the orchestra, Arkadiusz Krupa, will perform the solo part.

An important point of the evening will be the premiere of Paweł Mykietyn's Ash – a new symphonic piece dedicated to Sinfonia Varsovia.

During the concert, a fundraiser for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria will be organized by the Polish Humanitarian Action.

The concert is co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of its own programme ‘Conductor-in-residence’, financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage

The comission of Paweł Mykietyn's Symphony for Sinfonia Varsovia was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund - a state special purpose fund, as part of the ‘Composers' commissions’ programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
