Stawisko | 2nd Festival ‘Stawisko - a place of symbiosis of arts and cultures': toward Ukraine

POLMICMedia patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC

The 2nd Festival ‘Stawisko - a place of symbiosis of arts and cultures’, which will take place at the Anna and Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz Museum in Stawisko between the 9th and the 23rd of October, 2022, is a series of events presenting the traditions of the House of Anna and Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz as a place of symbiosis of arts, an area open to various cultures. The 2022 festival will focus on connecting Stawisko with Ukrainian culture. The co-organizer of the festival is the Polish Composers' Union.

The obvious impulse for taking up such a topic is Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz himself, a writer from the borderlands, whose work is deeply rooted in the culture of this part of Europe. The ties between his writing and Ukrainian culture are among the strongest and most diverse. The festival is also an attempt to turn to Ukraine, which has recently experienced - despite tragic events - a great spiritual revival, by presenting the trends and styles most characteristic of Ukrainian music and literature.

The achievements of Ukrainian composers will be juxtaposed with the music of Polish composers - both well-known and those less recognized. During the Festival, there will be an opportunity to remind you that Karol Szymanowski and Ignacy Jan Paderewski, and also much less frequently mentioned in the history of Polish music - Konstanty and Konstanty Kazimierz Regamey, among others, were born in Ukraine.

Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the 'Music' programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

Wroclaw | 4th dimension in the NFM

POLMICMedia patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC

During the concert in Wrocław on the 13th of October, 2022 pieces from the canon of the most important compositions of chamber music will be performed at 7.00 p.m. with the participation of the German cellist Julius Berger and the Lutosławski Quartet. In the Red Room of the National Forum of Music, Paweł Mykietyn's String Quartet No. 2 and Franz Schubert's famous String Quintet in C major D 956 will be performed.

Paweł Mykietyn's String Quartet No. 2 was commissioned in 2006 by the Polish Music Festival, during which the work was performed by the artists of the Kronos Quartet. In a composition full of intriguing microtone sounds, Mykietyn confronts subtle harmonies with the raw aura created by the sound of harmonics, which make the piece extremely interesting in reception.

The String quintet in C major by Franz Schubert is the last chamber piece by this composer, completed in the fall of 1828. The work is often called a ‘cello quintet’ because of the second cello in the score.Informacja prasowa organizatorów
