A concert in Memory of Maestro Jerzy Semkow, founder and parton of the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, will take place on 2 November 2019 at 6 p.m. at the Warsaw Philharmonic. The concert will premiere Paweł Łukaszewski's Corpus Christi Responsoria, dedicated to the memory of the Master.

Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra has always been grateful and proud that it was Maestro Jerzy Semkow who founded it in 2007 and whose name the orchestra has borne since 2018. Together with the Warsaw Philharmonic (and with the participation of its outstanding choir), where the world-famous conductor performed a number of times and was always greeted with great enthusiasm, the Sinfonia Iuventus will celebrate the 5th anniversary of Jerzy Semkow’s death with a performance of the all-time masterpiece – Mozart’s Requiem and the first performance of Paweł Łukaszewski’s Corpus Christi Responsoria dedicated to the memory of Maestro Semkow. The concert will be hosted by Bartosz Michałowski, choir manager.

Paweł Łukaszewski is, as a composer, interested in a variety of musical genres. It is, however, religious – particularly choral – music that he composes most eagerly. His pieces are valued not only by Polish audience and artists, but also outside Poland. Paweł Łukaszewski’s a cappella pieces often sound incredibly spectacular (owing to the composer’s excellent knowledge of choral practices and broad experience in singing and choirmastery), are also full of contrasts and suggestive expression. A characteristic feature of his music is exceptional harmonic sensitivity: a creative dialogue with the tradition of ancient modality, and major-minor tonality, which he himself defines as “renewed tonality”. Paweł Łukaszewski’s music is always very challenging for choirs. Its most brilliant performances always make an unforgettable impression on the audience.

W warszawskim Basenie Artystycznym, 24 października 2019 roku odbyła się 11. edycja Festiwalu Era Schaeffera "The Eternal Carousel", podczas którego została przybliżona postać i dorobek twórczy genialnego polskiego kompozytora Bogusława Schaeffera. Festiwal stanowił symboliczne pożegnanie z Mistrzem, który zmarł 1 lipca 2019 roku, niespełna miesiąc po swoich 90. urodzinach. 

Festiwal był multimedialnym i audiowizualnym wydarzeniem inspirowanym dźwiękiem, słowem, ruchem, obrazem, utrzymanym w technice collage'u. Wydarzenie uświetnili artyści sceny polskiej i zagranicznej wśród, których znaleźli się Lidia Bogaczówna, Izabela Warykiewicz, Sean Palmer, Marcel Wiercichowski, Witold Jurewicz, Janusz Radek, Marcin Wyrostek z zespołem Corazone, Andy Ninvalle, Temina Cadi Sulumuna, Patryk Zakrocki, Andrzej Karałow & Maciej Piszek z gościem specjalnym Michałem Urbaniakiem. Za reżyserię i scenariusz spektaklu odpowiadał Maciej Sobociński. Goście mogli podziwiać także prace graficzne Schaeffera.

"Spektakl jest precyzyjnie zaplanowany. Muzyka i aktorzy dosłownie ze sobą współpracują dlatego, że są to artyści, którzy swoimi dźwiękami i energią stymulują akcje aktorskie. To wszystko w formie spektaklu przeplata się ze sobą bardzo płynnie i jest przemyślane zarówno tekstowo jak i muzycznie tworząc całość. Bogusław Schaeffer jest inspirującym artystą. Pracując nad Erą Schaeffera mam poczucie absolutnej wolności. Era Schaeffera już od pierwszej edycji cieszyła się zaufaniem Profesora. Nigdy nie ingerował w to jak opowiadamy jego świat i był z nami co roku dopóki mógł i kibicował nam. Myślę, że ta wolność i ta radość z obcowania z jego grafikami, muzyką i dramatami w nas została" – powiedział reżyser spektaklu Maciej Sobociński.

Schaeffer był twórcą totalnym, lekceważył kanony stylistyczne, a nawet techniczne. Mówił, że "w sztuce nie wolno niczego powtarzać za innymi". Jego niezwykłe dokonania, szczególnie w dziedzinie muzyki i twórczości teatralnej, stawiają go na czele najciekawszych twórców w dziejach kultury. W tym aspekcie dzieła artysty są nieskończonym źródłem inspiracji dla kolejnych pokoleń. Kompozycje Schaeffera grają orkiestry z całego świata. Artysta jest też jednym z najchętniej wystawianych polskich autorów pośród współczesnych dramatopisarzy, a jego sztuki zostały przetłumaczone na 17 języków. Odtwórcami postaci schaefferowskich dramatów byli znani polscy aktorzy, m.in.: Jan Peszek, Mikołaj i Andrzej Grabowscy, Jan Frycz, Jan Machulski czy Marek Frąckowiak. Bogusław Schaeffer mimo wielkiego wkładu w rozwój Kultury Polskiej jest mało znany w naszym kraju, dlatego przybliżeniem jego artystycznej twórczości, nie tylko jako dramatopisarza, ale też kompozytora zajmuje się Fundacja Przyjaciół Sztuk Aurea Porta. Fundacja od lat skupia się na promocji, archiwizacji i upowszechnianiu dorobku artystycznego Profesora.

The Chair of Music Theory at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw invites you to the National Science and Art Conference 'Moniuszko Read Anew', which will take place on 28-30 October 2019 in the New Senate Hall.

The subject of the conference will be the unknown works of Stanisław Moniuszko, primarily orchestral. 'Unknown' means not distributed at all or rarely distributed, both in concert performances and in recordings or documentation, or widespread in versions that differ from the original. The conference will also discuss the reception of Moniuszko's works in the nineteenth century and in the period of Young Poland, as well as its presence and use in the Polish People's Republic and the breaking of the established patterns of its reception today.

The conference will be inaugurated on Monday at 10 a.m. by Andrzej Spoz, director of the WTM Library, with a lecture entitled: Stanisław Moniuszko in the Library, Museum and Archives of the Stanisław Moniuszko Warsaw Music Society. The discussions will be divided into five thematic panels: PANEL 1: Stanisław Moniuszko's operas and songs (Monday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.), PANEL 2: Word and literary programme in the works of Stanisław Moniuszko (Monday, 3-6 p.m.), PANEL 3: Comparison of Stanisław Moniuszko's scores with their editions. Transcriptions and paraphrases (Tuesday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.), PANEL 4: The form and language of Stanisław Moniuszko's orchestral and chamber works (Tuesday, 3-6 p.m.), PANEL 5: Film and sociological threads related to the work of Stanisław Moniuszko (Wednesday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. ).

On the first day of the conference at 7 p.m. Prof. Krzysztof Baculewski will discuss and present the recording of the Stanisław Moniuszko's opera Beata or Blind. The Moniuszko Concert will take place on the last day of the concerence at 7 p.m. in the FCUM Concert Hall. The Orchestra of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music will perform under the direction of Janusz Przybylski. The concert will be hosted by Alicja Gronau-Osińska and Ignacy Zalewski.

A concert entitled "Old Masters" will take place on 27 October 2019 at 6 p.m. in the chamber hall of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. The New Music Orchestra conducted by Szymon Bywalec – the oldest Polish ensemble specializing in contemporary music performance – will present the works of masters and precursors of the most famous currents in contemporary music.

The program will include Capriccio for piano and orchestra by Igor Stravinsky – with the participation of the soloist Gabriela Szendzielorz-Jungiewicz, Chamber concert for 13 instruments by György Ligeti, and Chain I for chamber orchestra by Witold Lutosławski.

Witold Lutosławski's composition was premiered at the "Warsaw Autumn" festival in 1984. The composer himself wrote about his work as follows: "The title Chain 1 suggests both the form used in this work and the intention of composing more 'Chains' in the future. In a work composed in chain-form the music is devided in two strands. Particular sections do not begin at the same moment in each strand, nor do they end together. In other words, in the middle of a section in one strand a new section begins in the other. In Chain I the principle of chain-form serves to conceruct the greater part of the piece. Toward the end the texture becomes more complex and consists of several individual parts played ad libitum which form a network of melodies to be played cantabile. I have composed Chain 1 for the fourteen principal players of the London Sinfonietta as a souvenir of our common music-making".

A series of concerts and seminars on the 30th anniversary of the death of the eminent Polish composer and publicist of the Radio Free Europe, Roman Palester, will be held in Warsaw on 25-27 October 2019.

The University of Warsaw invites you to a three-day series of events organized by the University of Warsaw Foundation and the University of Warsaw Library with the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The project emphasizes the artist's relationship with the university, and pays tribute to him on the 30th anniversary of his death. The versatility of Palester's compositional output will be presented during two monographic concerts: symphony concert in the Auditorium Maximum and chamber music concert in the Collegium Politicum of the University of Warsaw.

Outstanding musicians will present both his neoclassical works from the inter-war and war periods (including the stage premiere of the beautiful choral cantata Kołacze to words by Szymon Szymonowic), as well as examples of later works dealing with advanced musical means. In addition, two seminars will recall the important activities of the journalist of the Radio Free Europe station in Poland and his involvement in the creation of film music, especially in the 1930s. An example will be the movie Girls of Nowolipki (1937) directed by Józef Lejtes.
