Starting 1 January 2019, a concert of André Rieu and his Johann Strauss orchestra recorded at the end of the year in Sydney will be broadcast in nearly 100 cinemas thanks to nazywowkinach.pl.

The popular violinist André Rieu is returning to cinemas around the world to present a special carnival concert, registered in Sydney Town Hall. The programme of the evening includes Christmas carols, pieces of classical and film music, as well as truly carnival hits from operettas and Viennese waltzes. The concert will feature sopranos and tenors cooperating with André and other special guests. As usual, viewers will have the opportunity to look behind the scenesa and absorbe the atmosphere of the event in Sydney.

Live HD broadcast of the Christmas ballet The Nutcracker from the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow will take place on December 23, 2018 in Polish cinemas. In Warsaw's Kino Praha, the broadcast will take place at 4.00 p.m.

On Christmas Eve, Marie’s Nutcracker doll magically transforms into a prince and their wonderful adventure begins. The holiday classic returns to the majestic Bolshoi stage for a live broadcast of a timeless story, The Nutcracker, taking audiences of all ages on a magical journey through a world of enchantment complete with dancing snowflakes and dolls that have come to life, accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s beloved score.

Three days before Christmas, on December 21, 2018 at 7.00 p.m., the Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Silesian Philharmonic invites you to a concert of Christmas film music.

The programme of the concert will be filled with Polish carols arranged by Jan Maklakiewicz for mixed choir and soprano solo. Also, we will hear Christmas movie music: compositions by outstanding John Williams for Kevin home alone, which has been included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most profitable comedy of all time, and music from the Polar Express – first animated full-length movie designed for viewing in IMAX theaters. The film was nominated for an Oscar in three categories, and won a Grammy Award for the best song (Believe by Alan Silvestri to lyrics by Glen Ballard, performed by Josh Groban). 

The Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir will be led by Maciej Sztor; the soprano Marcela Wierzbicka will perform as a soloist. The concert will be led by Regina Gowarzewska – manager of the Philharmonic concert office.

The next concert from the cycle "Polish music too little known" will take place on December 20, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. the NOSPR chamber hall in Katowice. The programme will include compositions by Józef Świder and Grażyna Bacewicz.

Józef Świder (born in 1930) belonged to the generation of Penderecki, Górecki and Kilar, but in the years of the avant-garde sonorism he remained faithful to neoclassicism. He also never gave up on postromantic expression. He is usually associated with choir music, as he wrote about 300 compositions for vocal ensembles, but his output in other genres is also impressive – three operas, numerous oratorio and cantata works, and over 80 instrumental pieces, including many valuable pieces for wind instruments.

The programme of the Thursday concert will feature a seven-part Mini-Quintetto, composed – as if in defiance of avant-garde trends – tonally, with the classical rules of counterpoint and reference to various traditions and idioms. We will also hear the composer's Scherzo for flute and guitar, coming from the last period of his life, Andante for oboe and piano, an early work found after the composer's death, as well as Improvisation for clarinet and piano.

The repertoire will be complemented by Grażyna Bacewicz's Quintet for Wind Instruments, which was written during the postgraduate compositional studies at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris under the direction of prof. Nadia Boulanger. Bacewicz received for her work the first prize at the competition for composers of the Paris Society Aide aux femmes de professions libres. The concert will be performed by: Maria Grochowska (flute), Piotr Pyc (oboe), Roman Widaszek (clarinet), Marek Barański (bassoon), Mariusz Ziętek (French horn), Wanda Palacz (guitar), Eugeniusz Knapik (piano).

On December 20, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Chamber Hall of the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, Aleksandra Szwejkowska-Belica (violin) and Cezary Sanecki (piano) will perform a concert entitled Szmanowski's Heritage.

Undoubtedly the leading Polish composer between Chopin and Lutosławski, Karol Szymanowski drew inspiration from a wide range of influences, which he later merged with his explorations of folk music from his native Poland. Together with writers and visual artists, Szymanowski was part of the Young Poland movement, which offended the conservative establishment. Szymanowski expressed his attitude toward “national characteristics” asserting, “Let our music be national in its Polish characteristics but not falter in striving to attain universality. Let it be national, but not provincial.”

Szymanowski's thought is reflected in the work of his successors, whose music will fill the programme of the December concert. We will hear: Stained-Glass Window, Mazovian Dance and Slavic Dance by Grażyna Bacewicz, Polish Suite by Szymon Laks, who emigrated to Paris in 1926, but repeatedly referred to Polish folklore, Polish Dance from the ballet The Song of the Earth by Roman Palester, who also emigrated to France, Three miniatures by Juliusz Łuciuk, and Pleiades and Oberek by Romuald Twardowski.
