The Choir of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin was founded in 1921. Every year it performs several times at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin and in many places in Poland and all over the world. It has performed in churches and concert halls in places including Aachen, Berlin, Bethlehem, Birmingham, Bologna, Bonn, Brussels, Budapest, Buenos Aires, Canberra, Chicago, Cologne, Coventry, Cracow, Dresden, Gdansk, Geneva, Jerusalem, Kiev, Leuven, London, Lausanne, Lviv, Melbourne, Messina, Montreal, Namur, Nîmes, New York, Odessa, Ottawa, Paris, Sankt Petersburg, Poznan, Prague, Pretoria, Rome, Salzburg, Santiago de Chile, Sydney, Tel Aviv, Valencia, the Vatican, Vezelay, Vienna, Vilnius, Warsaw, and Wroclaw. It has performed in many European countries, including Austria, Belarus, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, former Yugoslavia and also the United States, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Chile and the Republic of South Africa.
The Choir of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin has participated and won prizes in the following national festivals: All Polish tournée of Choirs "Legnica Cantat" (1975, 1976, 1978, 1980, 1983); International Festival of Choral Song in Miedzyzdroje (1983). It performed during International Meeting of Choirs in Warsaw (1983), Gdansk (1983); Festival of Student Choirs in Wroclaw (1987); International Oratorio Cantata Festival “Wratislavia Cantans” (1988); Ars Chori Festival (1985) and International Festival of Sacred Music in Czestochowa (1992); International Organ Festival in Lodz (1994); International Festival of Sacred and Organ Music in Kielce (1995); International Festival of Choral Music in Lublin (1995 - 2003); International Festival of Sacred Music in Warsaw (1996); at the opening ceremony of the World Polonia Olympic Games in Lublin (1997); International Festival of University Choirs “Universitas Cantat” in Poznan (1998 – 2002); International Festival of Orthodox Church Music Hajnowka 2003 (competition) – Third Prize; International Festival Hajnowka Days of Orthodox Church Music 2004 (competition) – First Prize; International Organ and Chamber Music Festival 2004 in Lezajsk and competitions and festivals abroad: [Great Britain]: Llangollen (1980, 1981), Middlesborough (1980), and the BBC and European Radio Union Competition (1981); Arezzo, Italy (1977, 1982); [France]: Bayonne (1983, 1984), and Autun (1987); Karditsa, Greece (1986); [Germany]: Lindenholzhausen (1993) and Elsenfeld (1998); Jihlava/Prague, the Czech Republic (1993); [Spain]: Cantonigros (1984), Vittoria (1991), Valencia (1994); the World Symposium on Choral Music and World Choirs Festival in Sydney, Australia (1996); International Choral Festival in San Juan, Argentina (2000), International Choral Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2001; World Assembly of Choirs “Zimriya” in Jerusalem, Israel, 2001; [Italy]: International Meeting of University Choirs in Rome, 2001; International Festival of Choirs and Orchestras MUSICATENEO (2004) in Bologna; [Spain]: International days of Choir Music Alava (2005) and International Choir Festival Casa de Burgos (2005).
The repertoire of the choir includes vocal and vocal-instrumental works of Polish and foreign composers, ranging from the Renaissance to the present as well as great oratorio-cantata forms, including: A Vivaldi’s Magnificat, G.F Händel’s O Praise the Lord, W.A. Mozart’s Requiem, L. van Beethoven’s IX Symphony, Christ on Olive Mountain, A. Bruckner’s Te Deum, C. Orff’s Carmina Burana, Z. Kodaly’s Te Deum, Magnificat, R. Calmel’s Requiem, J. Rutter’s Gloria, Magnificat, as well as works by Polish composers: K. Szymanowski’s Stabat Mater, W. Kilar’s Exodus, Angelus, Missa pro pace, A. Nikodemowicz’s Mystery of the Cross Mass, M. Jasiński’s Ad Iuventatem.
The Choir's concerts and performances have been released on cassettes and CDs in Poland, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, the U.S. and Canada.
The Choir of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin is a member of the Polish Union of Choirs and Orchestras (PZChiO), the International Federation of Young Choirs (EFJC) and the International Federation of Choral Music (IFCM).
Grzegorz Pecka has been the Choir’s conductor and artistic director since 1998.
