RULES OF THE COMPETITION

1. The Fifth International Feliks Nowowiejski Organ Competition will be held in Poznań between 23rd and 28th August, 2015.

2. The competition is open to all organists that will be under 35 years of age on the first day of auditions. If over twenty-five applications are submitted, the first twentyfive received shall be accepted.

3. The maximum of 12 competitors shall be advanced to the Second Round, and 6 to the Third Round. The auditions in the First and Second Rounds are anonymous. Proper course of auditions shall be monitored by two duly sworn trusted representatives of the Competition organizers.

4. The repertoire of the competition features the following rounds:

First Round – Aula Nova of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music

J. S. Bach Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr’ BWV 664
F. Nowowiejski Andante lamentabile (Dumka) op. 31 no. 1
Second Round – Poznań Collegiate Church (F. Ladegast organ)
J. S. Bach – to be chosen by candidate:
- Prelude and Fugue in E minor, BWV 548,
- Fantasia and Fugue in G minor, BWV 542,
- Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C major, BWV 564
F. Liszt – Prelude and Fugue B-A-C-H (version from 1855)
R. Schumann – to be chosen by candidate:
- 4 Skizzen für den Pedalflügel op. 58: no. 3 and 4,
- 6 Studien in kanonischer Form op. 56: no. 5 and 6
Third Round – Aula Nova of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music
F. Poulenc – Concerto in G minor for Organ, Strings and Timpani
Any programme of 25-30 minutes featuring one of Nowowiejski’s following works:
- Symphony No. 1 op. 45 – part 1 Maestoso dramatico – Allegro moderato
- Symphony No. 9 op. 45 – part 1 Toccata
- Concerto No. 2 for Organ op. 56 – part 1 Introduction and Fugue

Nowowiejski’s music scores shall be available for download from the Society’s website as of September 2014.

Competitors shall be assessed by the Jury composed of:

Eric Lebrun (France)
Franz Danksagmüller (Germany)
Józef Serafin (Poland)
Elżbieta Karolak (Poland)
Secretary of the Jury – Jarosław Tarnawski
a) Activities of the Jury shall be controlled by the Chairperson elected at the Jury’s first meeting.
b) Activities of the Jury shall be governed by the rules and regulations set by the Competition organizers.

The rules and regulations shall be sent to the contestants.
c) All decisions of the Jury shall be final, irrevocable and made available to the public.

5. The participants shall be awarded three prizes:
First Prize: PLN 22.000
Second Prize: PLN 13.000
Third Prize: PLN 8.000
as well as other non-statutory prizes: cash prizes and performances.
All Third Round participants shall be granted a title of Laureate of the Fifth International Feliks Nowowiejski Organ Competition, and Second Round participants will receive Diplomas of Honour.

The Organizers do not allow for a different division of the main prizes.

6. All performances will be open to the public and, including the Prizewinners’ Concert, can be recorded and broadcast free of charge by permission of the Competition Organizing Committee. The Organizers reserve full rights concerning the above-mentioned material.

7. The organizers ensure accommodation reservation for the participants, who cover travel and hotel expenses.

8. The participants are obliged to turn up not later than on the day of their scheduled rehearsal before the First Round.

9. The order of performing will be decided by a draw on the first day of the Competition and will remain valid throughout the Competition.

The registration fee in the amount of two hundred Polish zlotys (PLN 200) is to be paid into the account of the Feliks Nowowiejski Society:
