Michał Jurkiewicz,

composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, music producer; b. 27th September 1980 in Rzeszów. He attended the primary and secondary schools of music in his hometown. In 2005 he graduated from the Academy of Music in Kraków.

In the 1990s he was a member of Po godzinach group. Later, when at college, he was an accompanist of Kraków-based Kwartet Okazjonalny and performed with Joanna Słowińska's band. Over the years he has collaborated with Ewa Bem, Zbigniew Wodecki, Maciej Maleńczuk, Grzegorz Markowski, Hanna Banaszak, Grażyna Łobaszewska, Kuba Badach, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Anna Maria Jopek, and Natalia Kukulska.

He has also worked as a music director of many concerts and TV programmes, e.g. Student Music Festival (2005), Papal Concert in Wadowice (2004), Marek Grechuta Festival in Kraków.

Since 2005 he has been performing with Grzegorz Turnau band. He is also a member of Jacek Królik's quartet, Piotr Nalepa Breakout Tour, and Anna Serafińska's band. He works extensively as session musician.

He founded and now leads the Śrubki (Screws) group. In 2010 the band released their debut album under the same title, and in May 2012 – another one, titled Gra mandolina (The Mandolin Is Playing).

Michał Jurkiewicz's instrumental works contain references to the style of film music and jazz. The major part of his compositional output includes compositions for children. He has written five works as part of the "Composing Commissions" programme, carried out by the National Institute of Music and Dance: the musical Fairy Tale about Jazz (2013), the operetta for children for voices and chamber orchestra In the Kingdom of Music (2016), the Fidelitas suite (2017), the ballet Ugly Duckling and Vigilamus – Calvary Oratorium (2019). Michał Jurkiewicz also works as arranger. His arrangements are featured on the album Ewa Bem, Grzegorz Turnau oraz dzieci śpiewają Astrid Lindgren (2009). He has also made an orchestral arrangement of Jarek Śmietana's Symfonia Wiosenna (Spring Symphony), which premiered in 2009 at the hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
