Paulina Załubska,

composer; b. 6th April 1984 in Kraków. She studied composition with Krystyna Moszumańska-Nazar and later with Anna Zawadzka-Gołosz at the Faculty of Composition, Interpretation and Musical Education of the Academy of Music in Kraków (diplomas with honors in 2009 and 2011). She continued her education at the Electroacoustic Music Studio of the same academy under the direction of Marek Chołoniewski and Mateusz Bień. She also studied instrumentation with Krzysztof Penderecki. She completed postgraduate studies in film music, computer music and audio-visual art at the Academy of Music in Łódź, in collaboration with the Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź. In 2020 she received a PhD in composition under the supervision of Marek Chołoniewski at the Academy of Music in Kraków. Currently she teaches at the Fryderyk Chopin Secondary Music School in Kraków.

She took part in international workshops for composers conducted by Kaija Saariaho, Dieter Mack, Per Nørgård, François Sarhan, Paweł Mykietyn, Jerzy Kornowicz, Marta PtaszyńskaTadeusz Wielecki and Zygmunt Krauze. She was a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

Her compositions have been performed in Poland and abroad at numerous international festivals, including the Ostrava Days, International Festival of Contemporary Music Contrasts in Lviv, Łódź Ballet Meetings, aXes – The New Music Triduum in Kraków, Days of Kraków Composers, Ryszard Bukowski Music Days, Passion and Paschal Music Festival in Poznań and Audio Art Festival in Kraków. In 2015 she took part in the project of London Philharmonic Orchestra – Young Composers. Her work Into the Darkness was premiered by the famous orchestra conducted by Magnus Lindberg. Her Reflexions of Light for soprano, piano and electronics was commissioned by the Association of Polish Artists-Musicians (SPAM) in 2015 as part of the Collections – Composing Commissions programme implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance.

Paulina Załubska writes chamber, solo, orchestral and electronic works. She explores the possibilities of combining the sound of acoustic instruments with electronics and image. She also creates extended musique concrète – the processing of pre-recorded sounds of acoustic instruments, and aleatoric music. Music for films and spectacles is an important part of her output. Her constant cooperation with the CzystaReForma – Odwrócony Theatre, as well as with the Polish Dance Theatre in Poznań, resulted in several premieres, including at the Grand Theatre in Łódź.
