Andrzej Borzym,

conductor; b. 22nd July 1955 in Warsaw. In 1981 he graduated from the Faculty of Music Education at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, where he studied conducting with Henryk Wojnarowski. He also graduated with honours from the Postgraduate Choirmaster Studies at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. In the years 1981-84 he worked as an assistant at his alma mater.

In the 1983/1984 season he was an assistant artistic director of the National Philharmonic Choir in Warsaw. He was a conductor of the Cantio Polonica choir (1984-1989), the Academic Choir of the University of Warsaw (1989-1999), the Philharmonic Choir in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (1996-98). Since 1994 he has been a conductor of the Collegium Musicum Chamber Choir Of the University of Warsaw and since 2008 he has been the artistic director of the Notabene vocal ensemble.

As an instrumentalist, he has collaborated with many Warsaw theatres, as well as with artists performing poetry and stage songs (including Elżbieta Wojnowska, Magda Umer). Since 1982 he has been working at the Grażyna Bacewicz State Music School Complex No. 3 in Warsaw, in 1992-96 being the headmaster of the Primary Music School. In 1992-96 he led the choir and orchestra of the Karol Szymanowski Secondary Music School in Warsaw. For many years he collaborated with Jeunesses Musicales de Pologne, leading international summer music camps. He was also invited to participate in the juries of many national choir competitions.

He is the author of, among others, Three Miniatures for choir to words by Ancja Łabuszewska, Time music poem and Suite for naughty children. In recent years, he has gained recognition thanks to choral arrangements of jazz and popular music, including songs by Jerzy Wasowski and Jeremy Przybora, Grzegorz Turnau, songs to words by Agnieszka Osiecka, songs for children, as well as many popular Polish Christmas carols.

For many years of pedagogical work, he was awarded the Award of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Poland and the Silver Cross of Merit, and for his work with university choirs – the Medal of the University of Warsaw and the Award of the Rector of the University of Warsaw.
